So I went into Boston today and the $2 section was fucking PACKED with CDs. All kinds of CDs I wouldn't pay full price for like Taproot, A Perfect Murder and 3 Doors Down. Not amazing bands, but worth $2, you know? Anyway, I come across this CD called
Pyschogeist by a band called Age Of Nemesis. A concept album. It was obvious it was metal, it's on Magna Carta, so I obviously bought it.
But wow, this CD is really good! I bought 18 CDs today, this is the only one I've listened to. It's monopolized my CD player since. Anyway, I check their website and I actually own a previous album of theirs called
Eden?, but they went by the name of Nemesis then. I remember not thinking that CD was anything special after a few listens. Now I'm going to have to go back and give it a second listen.
Anyway, first impressions of the band today (since it's almost like I'd never heard them before) is that they sound like a mix of Pagan's Mind, Dream Theater and Fates Warning. I hear all three. Progressive metal, but with a very heavy guitar tone. Here are some cover songs from their website:
THE MISSION (Queensryche)
GATES OF BABYLON (Rainbow)
TO TAME A LAND (Iron Maiden)
BURN (Deep Purple)
Those are some fucking excellent covers, especially the Queensryche and Rainbow covers! Anyway, here is a full track from
Psychogeist. I uploaded it because all the clips on the site from this album don't do the songs justice. Why don't bands put up clips of the hooks and shit? Why some random noodling or mid-verse clip? Makes no sense when you're trying to sell a product. Goddammit! Anyway, here it is:
FATE'S DOOR (download now, I will take it down soon)
Check 'em out.
