Exactly my point, not that I like the term "metal vocalist" myself. I don't even know what that is. I think of people that sound like Sully Erna when that gets thrown around.

Joe Lynn Turner v2.0 FTW

If you want to understand my usage of the term 'metal vocalist' in the interview, I suggest you seek the help of your friend and mine, Mr. Context.

I was, of course, asking Kelly Shaefer for his advice on how to sound like Rob Halford.

yeah, we understood the interview, my friend ,and frankly, I can't think you enough for asking such a question on our behalf, even if in a backhanded way.

The post was speaking generally, but yeah, some of us don't have to dream anymore of being singers.

As a matter of fact, the "wannabe" I was referring to was actually stevelovesmoonspell, who was the forumite to specifically request I ask Kelly about his warmup routine.

my bad Rio, I thought you were speaking in general of all of us.

His answer was basically a list of what not to do, especially smoking weed, so it is good advice if you just avoid everything he mentions he does, which was his point. Cigarettes are not a problem for most though.

His answer though is interesting. People like him (and me too) that treat their voices like they want social services to come take it away from the abuse generally have excellent technique. People that whine like a bitch like Roy Khan (from what i've read at BM) at every little thing generally have a lot of issues they refuse to address (I remember when I was like that!)

Anyway. I think his answer was profound in that way.

Great interview. I like how he described Atheist; HEAVY first, technical second. A lot of bands try to outdo each other with musical and genre-lising wankery that they forget what metal is all about; being HEAVY.
