I hear firm correspondence with Nattens madrigal in Mystic Forest (Green Hell for example). You guys too?

This is on my list, as soon as I can find it. How harsh is it compared to, say, Krieg?

Harsher. Not as brutal, but more ear shredding.

IMO this is what the "Ideal" black metal album should be like.
A perfect album in every way.

I'd say this is probably the harshest album I've ever heard in my life... The guitar tone cuts right through you, leaving a jagged scar on your eardrums (if you listen to it on headphones: Not recommended!) Now that's misanthropy.

It could be a lot 'worse'... Forest Poetry anyone?..

Definitely harsher than Krieg and 10 times better.. 4 track with loads of distortion.

Yeah, Ildjarn is rawer than most but IMO Nattens Madrigal owns every album by Ildjarn combined.

Ildjarn is rawer, but I find that NM is harsher, in that it can actually be quite painful to listen to loudly :D

i agree :D .... sounds like sandblasting without earplugs... buzzing and tearing your eardrums apart... luckely it's fixed if you turn up the bass and treble it down a bit (only if the bass can't remove the buzzing)..... aaahh... but don't seem to have any problem with it right now with my headphones... maybe i'm going deaf :? .. anywho... awsome album, good atmosphere - raw nature.. weee

"sounds like sandblasting without earplugs"

Excellent description. Not necessary to "fix" it though... I wouldn't have bought it if I didn' want my ears abused.

Fucking quintessential.
If you don't place this at the top of your list of Black Metal albums, I daresay you don't understand the genre.

Hey rio, check out Black Funeral-Empire of Blood... you inquired about this USBM band ( wrong thread, I know ) and it is the best one to check out, IMO.
I noticed that EoB went unmentioned...

Thanks man... I would really like to hear this record. Do you know where the best place to get it would be? I'm a bit of a n00b when it comes to ordering stuff off the internet. (excluding amazon which doesn't appear to stock this  )

I think we (you and me) discussed Black Funeral before here, but maybe not Empire Of Blood. Is it just as bad as Vempire and Belial Arisen?

Empire of Blood is quite good, the ones that you mentioned are actually very mediocre. Though knowing your tastes, perhaps not your cup of tea, I still reccomend giving it a listen

This is the last Ulver album I listen to and enjoy at any regular interval, definitely a classic. For some reason I imagined that more of you would hate it than you do...maybe I'm just too used to never agreeing with the black metal crew here.

I also consider this a classic. Your second sentence intrigued me. I guess I'm not an official member of the "black metal crew" but I have more in common with them than any other group here. I find myself agreeing with you quite often.
