90 is too low...and to say that the latter bands make them look like boy scouts is off-base. I saw these guys live in '85 and they were LOUD and totally insane. You take all of those bands mentioned and put 'em in a ring with Venom, have a battle royale, it will be Venom left standing; anyway, enough about that.
This is the first kvlt album ever made and it's atmosphere still holds. The review seemed to focus on their musical shortcomings,
which isn't really fair because if you think Venom are about musical technique, you don't get it.
My younger brother was into hardcore punk, back in '82, and he hated the NWOBHM that I listened to at the time... I brought this LP home and needless to say it met his approval, not because it sounded like punk (it doesn't) but because the music lives up to its name: Venom.
My score 100/100
V.

Exactly, which makes it all the more kvlt.
Like you said, Venom fucking rules.

Yes, maybe it should've been rated 100/100 as valefor said, but we can complain for eternity and nothing will change. We all know that it's 100/100 and it's enough for me.

So to sum up, the poor production and less than average musicianship on Venom's "Welcome To Hell" would make this album an archive by Metal Reviews standards. But Venom's overall influence on the thrash, death, black metal movement is undeniable. That in itself heavily overides the forementioned, making this album a classic. So I must give this album the lowest score eligible for classic based on our rating system: 90 / 100.

I'm curious, what would have been the actual rate if you didn't use it to include Welciome to Hell in the classics section ? :?

I like this album, but my favorite Venom album is "At War With Satan". Man, that 20 minute song and battle is epic. Great album.

Whilst I love all the Venom Albums up to and including Possessed, Black Metal is for me their greatest. Buried Alive is the shit!!!
