Sorry, but I never heard of these guys. How long have they been around? How many albums do they have?

Easy. One album, 1994. They invented Funeral Doom and they crafted the most bleak and depressive album ever. A true Doom masterpiece. HIGHLY RECOMENDED.

This is a classic indeed. They started Funeral Doom :cry:. IMO doom metal in general isnt the most popular genre among metalheads so it's easy for people to miss out in this gem i guess. It'll be cool to have more doom reviews here.

Metalcrypt did a classic review on it few weeks ago too. :)

So would it be fair to say that this stuff might be in the same vein as Evoken, Novembers Doom or Swallow The Sun?

Thergothon is more minimal, more dark, depressive and SLOOOOOWER than any of those bands.

Don't expect many arranagements like MDB does. Just slow depressive doom with some use of synth here and there and a few acoustic guitars in one song.

My favorite lines

So sit back and realize that everything you once though was obscure and decaying, pales in comparison to this opus, the materialization of the human’s deepest sorrows.

Be warned, Streams from the Heavens is the coldest of blades to your wrist.

I don't like Funeral Doom at all. I don't mind slow songs here and there but I have a really hard time getting into super slow Doom.

Finally some doom here. Can you review Electric Wizard's "Dopethrone"? That's a doom classic if ever there was one.

Theregothon's "Stream from the heavens" is kind of hard to find and also pretty depressive, certainly one of the best funeral doom albums around.

Seconded. I was happy to see a funeral doom CD reviewed this week, even if it did get 30/100, so let's hope we keep the momentum.. I prefer the traditional stuff, but it's becoming more and more scarce, so I'll take anything.. doom/death, funeral, stoner, drone or trad. This stuff gets just as obscure as BM and people need to know that it's out there. 8)

When it comes to Funeral Doom this album is 2nd to only Skepticism's "Stormcrowfleet". Must-buy for anyone who likes Doom, might like Doom or used to play Doom.

EW's "Dopethrone" is only five years old and doesn't really need to be rated "classic" yet.

I believe Doom is even more obscure than BM, many great bands with their own touches of originality ! This album is my fav Funeral Doom record !

Dopethrone is awesome and I'll try to review it soon, but it won't be a classic as it is 5 years old, so an archive it will be.

Couldn't be far more from the truth...
THIS album, their only album, is one of my top-ten favorites... There are no bleaker and more deeper (deep as in the bottom of the fucking ocean) album than this horror of a debut... put it on, turn it up, and let your speakers growl "FUUUUUUNNNNEEEEEERAAAAAAAALL!!!!" so your bowels can feel the icy chills...
Of course, there are no lines that actually say "funeral" but the music itself... I mean, no wonder they decided to call it funeral doom after this slimy beast was released.
And yeah, Stormcrowfleet is also a great album, but more user-friendly... This one shows no mercy. "The Unknown Kadath in the Cold Waste" is the only track that let's you go, for a few minutes, to let you enjoy your last sunset before it drags you into the depths.
Pure funeral-doom classic.

Wow, there are a lot of old posters in this thread.

Funeral Doom is hard for me to get into. I liked Esoteric, but that was a step in the "YIKES" category.

Just checking this out right now. It's interesting, but it'll take a while for me to get into it.
I'm a bit new to funeral doom.
