Now this is a classic album. Fack metallica, and Moonspell.

I would still give it a 95 because only the last two songs are weak....and they're not even that bad. But every other songs is a power metal classic.

I wouldn't label it a classic but it's indeed a very good power metal album... I don't think Riot did anything that good since...

80/100

well after this album they started to get progressively worse. But I think as far as classic heavy metal is concerned this album is a gem. I have Restless Breed too from 83 and its a good mix of Ac/Dc Aerosmith, and old NWOBHM bands. Frankly I think Riot is one of the better American bands.

yeah, I love their old albums too... it's more like a hard rock band though...

and there are other good heavy american bands (Nevermore, Queensrÿche...) but the genre being very European it's no surprise the best quality lies on the old continent...

Canada has a few very good bands too ! :D

Shit, Fire down Under and Narita are awesome. Songs like Swords and Tequila just smoke hard for 70's Metal.

I've been listening to this album a lot lately and realized how much I like it... no, wait, I LOVE it! This kind of metal is so pleasant and entertaining to listen to and when its paired with such quality performances and great compositions it's even greater.

This is the only Riot album I have even listened to and I'm now very interested in the rest. So I ask you, which one should I try to get next ? I heard that they changed a bit during the course of their very long career so I'd like something similar and as good as this but I wouldn't mind either if it was a bit different but with the same quality and passion as this one.

I LOVE The Priveledge of Power. I would suggest it. It is beatlesesque in that it has many different types of songs. Some Power Metal, Some AOR/Hair metal kind of stuff (thats probably some of the strongest of its genre) and some progressive metal. There is only one weak song on that album, the title track, for its terrible Extreme (the band) feel and horrible sounding horn section.

I've had Thundersteel on my hard drive for around 4 months now and havent yet tried it out, but if its close to being as good as POP I'll get hooked on it too.

Thanks Adveser! I'll try to sample it somehow or get it if I can find it in the library! I noticed that it was released in 1990 and Thundersteel is from 1988 so they should be similar enough.

I read somewhere that the line up for this album is reuniting! Maybe Tony's vocals have come down a few octaves since this release! Should be interesting! :dio:

As wonderful as I think this album is, I think Narita is quite possibly their greatest album. 49er and Warrior have to be two of the greatest metal songs ever written.

Yes, Narita and Fire Down Under are better than this one.
Still a good album though but the all "pedal to the metal" thing make them lose their initial charm.

I have noticed this.

The songs I like from "The Priviledge of Power" are the songs that don't sound like they were left 2over from "Thundersteel"

Those are most definitely keyboards (hell, I could be wrong though) but yeah, If I could get the rights cheap I would re-mix and re-issue the priviledge of power.
