I beg to differ, Satch has an uncanny ability to write catchy guitar licks, he has a great sense of melody and more direct rocking style than Vai or Malmsteen, that IMO makes him more easy to listen than the others, and although i preffer Vai's style of playing i cant help to smile everytime i hear one of the upbeat Satch tunes, you can clearly hear he's having fun.
i definitely think that he has a great sense of melody etc. what i meant is that many songs of his sound like backdrops with the lead guitar as the main focal point 100% of the time. vai is more willing to use the other instruments as a team effort and create music that doesn't necessarily always focus on the lead guitar. is this a bad thing? nah, like you said, Satch is the most rockin of the three and that musical style lends itself to this. either way, its fantastic stuff
