My only opposition to this review is that it is not a Metal or Hard Rock album and this is a Metal reviews website.

What next - reviews of New Kids On The Block or Britney Spears?

This fucking argument happens everytime something a little bit off the wall comes around. If you can't see the influence this stuff had on modern metal, that's your problem and your loss. But for fuck's sake, cut it out with the goddamm lame ass complaints.

Reading this would've solved your dilemma, dead1:

Without Joy Division, Bauhaus, and Siouxsie and the Banshees the metal scene today would be a hell of a lot different. There'd be no gothic metal and I doubt that that black metal would be as dark as it is without those bands.

Influence is irrelevant.

Influence does include just about every genre of music as well as the horror and action film genres.

Classical music - influence on guitar playing especially bands like early Children of Bodom and lots of power metal

Rock music ala The Who, Hendrix - distorted guitars. Enough said.

Grunge - massive influence on metal - look at what happened to bands like Anthrax, Motley Crue and Overkill in the early 1990's as well as the emergence of alternative metal bands. All due to Grunge.

Punk music - anything from the Sex Pistols to Sick of it All. All have played a massive infleunce on metal that is much bigger than Killing Joke or Joy Division.

Pop music (e.g. Duran Duran, Sting) - clearly a big influence on a number of Swedish bands ala Edge of Sanity, In Flames and Soilwork.

The Cure and the whole New Romantics scene - chuck them in as an influence on Goth Metal while you're at it.

Horror movies - influenced everything from Black Sabbath to Goregrind bands.

Action Movies - influence on Arnocorps and Austrian Killing Machine but also on bands such as Iron Maiden for lyrical influence.

Pirates - Influence on Alestorm and other Pirate Metal bands.

Folk music - helped spawn an entire genre.

Works of several authors such as J.R. Tolkein and Stephen King - massive influence on all things metal. Again probably bigger than Joy Division.

I could go on but you see my point.

Just because something has influence does not make it metal or hard rock.

If you start letting influences creep in, you're opening a pretty big hole.

Many would disagree with you.

A hole which this site chooses to tackle obv. 20+ reviews a week you surely can find enough to interest you without ragging on the non-metal reviews.

Letting non-metal creep in makes the site become a joke. Kinda like Metal Hammer in the late 1990's when they featured lots of non-metal such as Public Enemy, Greenday, Linkin Park and Blink 182.

I suppose that these are the next logical step. :dio:

I can promise you that I will be extremely pissed off if anyone posts positive reviews for Blink 182 or Linkin Park.

Which song did Iron Maiden write about an action film?

Dude you haven't been around here long enough but MR has been doing non metal/hard rock reviews for quite some time now.

You also have to understand that a lot of hard rock bands from the 60's and 70's inspired many metal bands today. It's because of that, they deserve a place in the MR Archive and Classic section.

Hell, our most respected reviewer even gave the Foo Fighters a positive review. It was deserved as fuck, but still. Shut up. I might just do a classic review for Never Mind The Bollocks now, just because of your reaction.

London Calling deserves it first.
