*sigh* This is essentially the first metal album I ever listened to... and almost ruined the entire power metal genre for me, as I couldn't find anything else at the time which matched it (including other Gamma Ray albums).

In my opinion, they've still yet to write a song which surpasses Beyond The Black Hole in sheer epicness and power -- and is, in my opinion, the best power metal song of all time.

Yep, one of the best metal albums ever made. This has classic written all over it. My favorite Gamma Ray.

Totally deserving of the Classic status. I don't know if it's just me, but I always felt that this album was a bit underrated, being sandwiched between a cult album (Land of the Free) and what is arguably their best (Powerplant).

Since Valley of the Kings is one of the songs that got me into metal in the first place, this is definitively my favorite GR album.

As for Fantasy being a lukewarm closer, I somewhat agree. The digipak version ends with a great cover of Victim of Changes, and Miracle (a decent ballad version of Man on a Mission from LotF) so it's worth getting if you don't have the album already.

I consider Land Of The Free, Somewhere out in space, Powerplant and No World Order to be absolutely among the the best powermetal albums out there. Unfortunately it has gone downhill since that and I have not very big expectation for their fortcoming "To The Metal" that has a title track which sounds nothing more than a cheesy Manowar ripoff. It might be a solid album, but i doubt it will bring anything fresh to the metal scene.

The song titles of aforementioned album aren't too hot either. Granted, I know that power metal bands seem to be inept in that department, but...

I wish Gamma Ray would go back to sounding like themselves, instead of parodying their 'idols'.
