Good album, though I rather like The Angel and the Dark River and The Light At The End Of The World a bit more.
Been awhile since I've given these guys a listen, a revisitation is in order.

Good ol' MDB...

One time I was at this music festival. It was really beautiful weather, and everybody that could be seen hanging out round the metal tent was looking cheerful. Then, I see this mangy blue van trundling through the mud. "Ohh must be one of the bands", I think. All the cheery metal folk scamper out of the way of the van. Then, through the window, looking out as it passes, I see Aaron Stainthorpe looking like Christmas has been cancelled, andl inexplicably, seemingly soaked with water.

Hats off to you, MDB, the only band that seems literally to walk around with a black raincloud over your heads.

That's right, I remember you speaking highly of MDB way back when.

Yes, actually I find them something of a hit and miss band a lot of the time, (try listening to Aaron doing a "rap" about heroin on 37.344444%.... complete) but this album is really something. It has such as unique sound.

Although, I actually do think Sear Me sucks... the rest is gold.

Just discovered this, a perfect doom album, prefer it to As the Flower Withers.

Also rio you can't be serious about Sear Me, it's one of the most beautiful pieces of music I've ever heard.

This thing really?

Bah, simplistic sad violin and piano line repeating endlessly, and Aaron moaning. About as moving as this:

Simplistic can often be great, but this track doesn't pull it of, IMO. I don't really feel the atmosphere myself, but each to their own. I love MDB, of course, but I don't think this song is one of their best.

I fall somewhere in between on this track. Generally I lean towards Rio's opinion, but once every blue moon it will strike me like SoulSociety.

Problem is the beast known as 'Your River' follows it on the album, so about a minute into 'Sear Me' I will give in to hitting the next track button.

What do you guys prefer, this album or As The Flower Withers? For me IMO this is their best one.

At the Flower Withers doesn't hold a candle to this album.
AtFW was sloppy in a few ways; this showed a tremendous maturity.

TLTS might still be my favorite from MDB, but due to the just ok production it hasn't aged as well as say, The Dreadful Hours.

My thoughts exactly. I have a friend who thinks the opposite, but it's simply not true, TLTS has better songs, period.
