As I mentioned to you, I generally just play Alien if I want some SYL, but City is a damn good album, and now that I've been told a remaster is available, there's nothing stopping it being a classic.

Best SYL album. Probably the one with the most prominent grind influences.

An unquestionable classic. And Oh My Fucking God is still one of the most insane songs ever.

The first four songs are ridiculously amazing, after that it's still really good but I start to lose interest a bit. But, still an amazing record. I'd call it a classic, if not one of my favorite albums.

UNDERNEATH THE FUCKING WAVES

one of the albums that got me into metal. it's the heaviest album that still has catchy and varied songs

Man, this is a great album. Most albums this heavy just blast and blast, but Townsend doesn't forget to actually write songs.

Indeed a classic.

Definitely a classic. I think this is the heaviest album I've ever heard. Sure 11 years later now we have the Origins and teh Rotten Sounds and the Pig Destroyers but still there is something about this album that makes it feel more like a sledgehammer to the head than anything else I've heard.

Oh My Fucking God = Angriest song ever.

Yes. Classic status indeed. This was my second SYL, and actually the one that made me step into a more heavy technical sound. Devin is a genius.

I should've thought about that more. The only song I lose interest on is Room 429 and I can forgive that because it's a cover and because it's by no means a skip. And I agree about this being the heaviest album ever, except for maybe Jane Doe.

As soon as 2011 rolls by, Jane Doe needs a fucking classic review.

er, zad, why would you want this album remastered? the production is perfect... Devin sounds buried in the guitar avalanche throughout it all, as if he must scream ever louder so that he can merely be heard, let alone comprehended.

also i think it was remastered when they re-issued it, although from what i've heard it's not different enough to be worth tracking it down

One of my favorite albums ever, truly a classic. Got me into Devy.

I'll have to dig my old copy out, but I'm sure I didn't like it that much because of the production... nowhere near as good as Alien's.

You're right, its negligible at best. But I lost my original version, so when I saw the re-issue/remaster, I snatched it up. I had no problems with the original production though.

Listened again today, I miss the bass boom that Alien has...

All hail the new flesh, OMFG and Underneath the waves are just ultra perfect but I usually skip the album after underneath the waves. I find it annoying when so many bands stick a really out of place cover in the middle of an album. Fair enough after it but in the middle seems just out of place (think Fear Factory's Demanufacture album).
Also does anyone else think that Spirituality sounds like a 5 minute intro?

Room 429 fits the album really well. and "Spirituality" is amazing, especially the part when he screams "AND EVERY NIGHT I LOOK IN THE SKY AND I PRAY TO GOD THEY'LL HEAR ME"
