You could review Led zeppelin II or IV, I know they aren't actually heavy metal, Pink Floyd, Yes and the Who aren't either. Led Zeppelin is the grandfather of all hard rock.

Exactly, they were too busy thinking they could be the next beatles if they were extremely diversified. I'm glad Judas Priest came along and stopped this non-sense. People into Hard rock and Metal want just that, not a blues number, and R&B song, and some free-form jazz thrown in for good measure. Fuck that, If i wanna hear jazz, I'll listen to a masters like Bruford [band] and Chicago do it better than Zeppelin because that is thier forte'

Lets not forget that Jimmy page basicaly ripped everyone off too

Yeah... I like how Rory Gallagher blends jazz, rock and blues...

I just don't find most of the second half of IV particularly pleasing or memorable

Well, my point is just that, there were better bands than Led Zeppelin doing blues, jazz, doo-wop and every other genre Led Zeppelin had no business (in my opinion) doing. Maybe they didn't listen to enough records and pilfer enough material to come out with all-rocker albums.

Early thin lizzy just isn't what I was expecting. I recall watching a concert by them from the second or third albums tour and thought it was good, but then listened to those albums and it just didn't do it for me. I like songs that are big country-esque like black rose and angel from the coast myself.

No, do your homework, Big Country is a Scottish punk turned new wave band (without synthesizers) that utilized a a guitar technique to make thier guitars resemble the sound of bagpipes. They used quite a bit of traditional scottish melodies that are almost identical to those used on Thin Lizzy recordings.

Easy mistake though, I don't expect metal fans to know anything about an 80's pop band, unless they are european and possiblely very diverse in thier listening.

He is European and very diverse in his listening. Anyway, I thought you were referring to Big Country, but I thought it was too bizarre to be true.

Nah, the similarities are striking.

I thought he misunderstood because he used the phrase "country-esqe" and "folk-esqe" like I were refering to a genre.
