Times of Grace - released 1999

Ten years have not passed. Thus, no classic.

Also, as much as I love Times of Grace, Through Silver in Blood is Neurosis' only classic album.

Hatebreeder got classic status, and it was released 97/98

And so did Nemesis Divina, which got classic status in 2005 when it waas released in 1996

Dimmu Borgir's Enthrone Darkness Triumphant was released n 1997

Edguys Vain Glory Opera was released in 1998 and Theater of Salvation was released in 1999

Marduks Heaven Shall Burn.... was released in 1996, and made a classic here in 2004.

Hey, what a surprise, you came to talk shit. Since you obviously don't care to ask before running your e-mouth, let me enlighten you. A good many of the classics are merely archive reviews put in the classic section before the new format was nailed down (ex. Grave Digger - Excalibur). Now, as of this moment, the policy is this: Classics are albums 10 years old or more, which hold great influence over their genre.

In conclusion, neither of noodles requests are classics. I would be happy to review "Through Silver in Blood" though.

This review needs to be done: Corrosion of Conformity - Deliverance.

Man, what an awesome album!!

Awesome, but not sure if it's a classic. I think it's more an archive review, with a really high score (90-95, for me).

You kidding? COC is what it is today because of that album! That was a pretty big album for the band.

No, not kidding... a 90-95 means an incredible album, and this one deserves a 95. But I don't think it has influenced so much in the metal scene to call it classic. Outstanding yeah, classic, no.

You can have another opinion, of course, and consider it a classic. Ok. Make the review, cause this album and CoC deserve a review. And, for historical reasons, there's a lot of stuff in the classic reviews that deserves that status a lot less that this one.

But if Metal Church - the dark is not classic and is an archive review with a 95, this one is in the same league. That's my opinion.

Well, it's tough choosing a classic, right? It's up to the reviewer. Maybe we should start voting among the reviewers? I don't know. I think Deliverance is a classic, I think it influenced a lot of bands (just listen to Dead Rabbits, who I reviewed this week).

In the end, though, most "classics" are opinion-based. Very few are clear-cut, indisputable classics.

Oops, didn't know about that rule. I've always thought of Times of Grace as their more influential album since its the one Isis sounds like lol

You may have a point, but "Through Silver in Blood" really helped kickstart the sludge genre and also influenced Isis, Mastodon, etc. Would you settle for it as a classic, and one of their Albini produced albums as an archive sometime down the road?

No, i didnt come to talk shit, i just posted some facts with no real comment. A few of those are actual 'classics'. I think something can be called a classic when its less than 10 years old, it just depends on the circumstance.

@ Fridge: Dude, you're just gonna get shot down, again  Let it go...... :)

Since it's clearly pointless having separate threads for Classics and Archives, I vote we incorporate both into this thread and it's up to the reviewer which is which, following the Ten Year rule, or whatever. All in favour say aye...

I'd like to see Fates Warning - Inside Out (1994) reviewed. I don't know how influential it was to prog metal since DT's "Images and Words" came out 2 years before this but that was the album that got me into prog metal.

It's sad but from what I know, there won't be any Burzum reviews on this site due to reasons someone else will have to explain. Something about friendly germans in uniforms with a different view on the world and such I believe.

I have to agree that this site needs more Fates Warning reviews, but my choices would be Awaken The Guardian or The Spectre Within.
