IMO, I don't think it's wrong to compare them, because they're both two important eras in the history of Black Sabbath. Black Sabbath w/ Ozzy is the very DEFINITION of Heavy Metal. They were the first band to play this stuff and I don't think no-one should argue with that. Although I do prefer the Dio-era way more than the Ozzy-platters (as I'm not that fond of his voice), I still have a lot respect to the 70's albums (and the Tony Martin years as well) and how they shaped the genre we have come to know as Heavy Metal.
