While this isn't a bad album by any means, it just doesn't do that much for me.

There's probably 2 big flaws with this album.

1) The production - eh at best. The guitars sound so muddy (and not in a good way). Some of the songs would've been so much better if the guitars had sounded better - instead they lack power and just seem weak. Especially tracks like The Temple, where the guitar sound just kills the song. Overall, I almost thing the sound got worse on this album compared to the first. The whole CD sounds like it was poorly mixed, and then cranked to make it louder. This is the worse part of the CD IMO.

2) The songwriting. I followed this for awhile on Caffery's boards, but I just don't see how amazing the songs are from Caffery's descriptions. The album kept being hyped as something completely different and fresh, yet its got very little of that. While parts are progressive, there are only a couple of real stand out tracks. The rest just blur into a pile of nothing at the end of the listen. Again, I feel his songwriting took a nose-dive and the stuff on Faces (which was extremely mixed - some awesome songs, some bad) and WARPED (same) was stronger as a whole then this.

So I'd probably give this album a 70/100 overall. It's a solid release, as nothing is extremely bad about it (except the production). However, it just seems like a forgetable album. Nothing as in "That's horrible!", but also nothing like "that was incredible". I think part of it is Caffery's voice as well - it just did not fit well with some of the songs on this album. I put it away for awhile and listened to it again today after reading the review, and my opinion hasn't changed.

I still look forward to his next release though. I just really hopes he reanalyzes the mixing/recording department
