Heard one of their albums and it was so-so.

This type of stoner music doesn't do much for me. It's sleepy and derivative instead of catchy, energetic and badass like Bloodhorse/The Houston Swing Engine or elegant, happy and pretty like Causa Sui/Colour Haze. Just seems like an emotionally dead performance of generic rock riffs w/ wah pedal and gruff vocals.

Those bands are pretty much crap (yes, I've heard them, no matter how cool you think you are dropping obscure band names).
Colour Haze is lame and boring.

Anyway, enough noodles bullshit.

How does this band compare to say Electric Wizard?
I like my doom dark and foreboding.

Colour Haze are excellent and the opposite of lame and boring and not really that obscure either yo. My examples weren't very good though since I was having trouble thinking of stoner metal bands.

Goatsnake don't really have the dark atmosphere of Electric Wizard. They don't really have much atmosphere to their music which is my problem with it. I tend to associate the problem with Wino since all of his bands (including Shrinebuilder to a certain extent even though Scott Kelly is awesome )are uninteresting in a similar way and was wondering if anyone else had noticed it.

No. These guys do kinda suck I think. But then again that was Trampled Under Hoof and not this album.

The Obsessed were good but the rest of Wino's stuff I could do without. Scratch that I need to check out St. Vitus. But then again Wino isn't in Goatsnake.
