Yeah, I'm with Dead Machine. This band would probably be better if not for the production. And they most definately do not rival Suffocation in brutality.

Uh no, Devourment are terrible. Suffocation are way better.

I think half the reason I got this album was for the cover. Bloody Jackalope monster things with pizza cutters are awesome! This is a great brutal album but suffers from that "do-it-yourself" sound quality. Breeding the Spawn and Effigy of the Forgotten are being re-issued for the price of one from Roadrunner, and I'm thinking about getting them, but I'm nervous about the sound quality. Hopefully it is a little cleaned up compared to the debut. By the way, Human Waste has a great band photo in it. The guy on the right looks like he could be the president of the chess club or something.

i haven't heard human waste, but Effigy and Pierced have a pretty listenable production. could be heavier if it was recorded today, but still.

The reissues do not improve the sound one bit. The production is still bad both in effigy of the forgotten and breeding spawn.
But as you know the musicianship and songwriting are out of this world.
If you want better production go for pierced from within or Souls Of Deny or the ep Despise the sun.
