I liked their previous efforts, have to look for this one if it's so good.

Btw, a few sources claim it to be a 2004 album ( www.neformat.com.ua , www.froster.com.ua).

It is a 2004 album.

Is it me, or is this one a bit more accesible than The Beyond? Great nevertheless, I really like this band.

EDIT: I took the freedom to correct the release date on your review Dee...

ah, thanks man, I must have been tired when I inputted that.

and yes, I found it a little more mellow and melodic in places. but still a hell of a journey.. if these kind of bands continue to get mainstream attention then I consider that a good thing.

I don't like them or Isis. Pelican/The Red Sparrowes beat them at being relaxing, and Neurosis/Swarm of the Lotus beat them at being heavy =\

they only have three albums, so there's not much to choose from.. the previous two are heavy than this one, but then this one is more spiritual from my point of view.

also.. Neurosis, Isis, Pelican, Jesu.. the usual atmopheric postsludge monkeys, all of which write very good songs.

oh yeah, and then from there, holycraploads of black metal, doom metal, prog and post-rock! and then in seven years you'll be in the back of a smokey metal club complaining that the lastest Bunkur track isn't long enough.

8)

I'll check some of this out, at first I couldn't appreciate Leave Me Here at all, but given a few listens before I went to sleep, I suddenly GOT IT. Fucking great stuff-but on my first purchase of a cd of this kind, I want to be blown away-can you reccomend me around 3 mindblowing albums in this vein?

Sure.

Pelican - Australasia
Pelican - The Fire In Our Throats Will Beckon The Thaw
Isis - Panopticon.

There you go, that's all you need. If you want more, get

Isis - Oceanic
Isis - Celestial
Red Sparowes - At the Soundless Dawn.

Plug time: Everyone's going to tell you to listen to Isis and Red Sparowes, both of which are great bands. BUT: two more bands everyone should check out are Capricorns and Baroness. No I won't provide clips, look 'em up on Archives, lazy tossers.

Never heard Capricorns, but I do have all of Iron Monkey's stuff. (Capricorns guitarist is ex-IM) How do the two compare?

IM are band from totally the opposite end of the sludgey/doom spectrum, but IMO excellent. Where these bands (CoL, ISIS etc  ) sound alien and almost spiritual, Monkey is a gravelly and drunken blues band with lots of screeching. Cool...

Capricorns are pretty much instrumental sludge, but rocking out rather than introspective. Much less heavy than IM.
Baroness are similar, but sludgier.

Well I was trying to check this out but you go to their webiste and go to downloads, click on a song, and you know what you get....

The requested URL /download/leave_me_here.mp3 was not found on this server.

This wouldn't enrage me so much if it didn't happen constantly. It's unbelievable how many band's samples don't work, or aren't there at all. AGHHH GODDAMNIT!!!!

Try their label's site, I think they're on Earache. It'll be at the top of the review, anyway, and I can't be rrsed going to look.

CULT OF LUNA new album April 24th
Apocalyptic Swedish outfit Cult of Luna have completed work on their latest album entitled 'Somewhere Along The Highway'
Slated for an April 24th release date via Earache Records, the initial tracking took place over 7 days in a wooden octagon barn surrounded by "Blair Witch" scenery close to the bands hometown of Umeå in Northern Sweden. According to Magnus Lindberg the remote location coupled with the spotting of "Wicca witch women dancing in the woods" and the actual acoustics of the barn itself all contributed towards creating the perfect ambiance to lay down the basic tracks which were done primarily live, as a unit - a departure from previous Cult of Luna recording protocol.

Further recording and mixing happened in Tonteknik studios where both the bands 2004 album 'Salvation' and it's predecessor 'The Beyond' (2003) were recorded. And the result promises to more raw and unpolished then the bands previous releases.
Somewhere Along The Highway
contains 7 tracks, namely:

Marching To The Heartbeats
Finland
Back To Chapel Town
And With Her Came The Birds
Thirtyfour
Dim
Dark City, Dead Man

Shit, I've really got to start prioritising, I spend so much money on concerts that I have little left for cds...And now with CoL, the next new cd I buy will probably not be for ages. (except for Clandestine which I will get soon)

Just saw the video for "Leave Me Here" and it featured lots of men who have wrenches for heads. Didn't really like it enough to go buy it, but it's interesting... I guess.
