Great review... Actually I was starting to wonder when you would review this gem. This is a great album indeed. It takes a couple of spins to get it right, but the journey is most rewarding. I have already said this about two other albums on these boards today, but unless something extraordinary and completely unexpected happens, this album will probably be on my 2006 top 10 (and probably in one of the top spots).

On a different note: It is a little strange but I have been doing the same alternating between this one and Larks' Tongues in Aspic. It is quite rare to find two ‘complementing’ masterpieces.

Good review. I sort of like this band, but it's definitely the kind of thing that inspires curiosity rather than affection from me personally.

Also, all the stuff that's written about them on their myspace seems to be pretentious balls. I guess that's more the Washington Post's fault than theirs, but still... "Chamber Metal"?

Sounds intriguing. My local shop has this, amazingly enough, and thanks to your extremely descriptive review, I'll be sure to pick it up.

I've tried many times to get into these guys are they refuse to get stuck in my head. I always find myself thinking of what I can listen to next. It's not bad, I guess, but nothing grabs me.

But I like Kittie, so...

The review got me intrested but I'm still undecided to get this, some people seem dissapointed with it.

yeah, I was half-decided on adding a few samples until I remembered that all the songs were over six minutes long. sigh.

anyway, I'm glad that a few people are considering picking this one up, and also that a certain person with great taste came to the same conclusion as I did..

This album is funny. I can aknowledge that it is great innovation wise, but for some reason I always remember the album as better than it actually is when I listen to it...

I'll give that it is very offputting and original, but thats about the best I can say about it. I like the song where they repeat the same thing for like 6 minutse, its like a trial of how much you can take!!!

Absolutely fantastic stuff. It's not often that a band can be called truly original, but this is one of those. Fans of this please check out Maudlin of the Well (same band basically under a different name) and Toby driver's solo album.

I enjoyed Maudlin of the Well, particularly the first album. Considering that this is mellower I am undecided on getting it.

this is one of the best albums of 2006 I've listened to yet.... Strangely, this band reminds me a lot of (Red era) King Crimson...

I give this album a 90/100 8)

How does this compare to: Choirs of the Eye?

There are parts of that album that are brilliant, but not enough to want another clone of it in the collection.

I just started listening to this again because I fell in love with Maudlin of the Well and I find that one song at a time its great, but as a whole album its a little much. But its still the most original release of 2006 so far. I find all of the songs except "Amaranth the Peddler" seem to go by relaxed intro followed by creepy as hell outro.

Bath and Leaving your Body Map are cool albums.
