I'm a huge fan of Viking Metal as well. I'll have to check this out, regardless of the moments of Rammstein . Anyway, nice review.

I think there was something posted in the Death/Black/Thrash forum about these guys.

Thyrfing is the band that opened me for viking metal with their previous record Vansinnesvisor, which was near perfection. Farsotstider is a good album that takes more time to get into than V. The "killer songs" Alex mentioned are all great and i'll just add Baldersbalet and the 9th song simply titled bonustrack, which shouldn't be missed cause it has great atmosphere and is the most folkish song of the record. So in the end it's 80 from me and a worthy successor of Vansinnesvisor. Now I better get acquainted with their previous albums.

All Thyrfing albums get rave reviews everywhere. I fail to see what the fuck is so great about them. There's a lot of better viking metal bands out there.

I discovered them nearly a decade ago with Vansinnesvisor, and I was so stunned that immediately got their 2 previous albums, which were a huge disappointment for me. So I kind of got stuck on Vansinnesvisor since then, and still I think it is pure perfection (even though Viking metal really isn't my cup of tea..)

A week ago I decided to give them another try with this one. While it isn't Vansinnesvisor, it's certainly more than just a good album. Except BaldersbÄlet which is excellent but sounds exactly like the previous album, the rest of the song have a new fresh sound. I'm really glad I got it.

I'd say the score is a bit underrates it...
