Spot on, Zad. This record just hammers home the point that Slayer really don't have anything new or vital to contribute to metal anymore. In spite of the recent studio mediocrity, the band is still a solid live act with an incredible back catalogue of material. I would be perfectly happy for them to trot out some of the lesser known tracks from the old days instead of playing something new that is bland and uninspired.

Honestly this is exactly what I expected. Pretty much unlistenable like everything slayer have done for twenty years or more. Slayer have enough great material in their back catalogue to be a solid touring band but should avoid the studio for the sake of their reputation. People won't want to se Slayer live if they keep trotting out these mediocre-at-best albums that don't sound like Slayer and are more or less interchangeable. Could have been forgiven for thinking Repentless was actually World Painted Blood or God Hates Us All.

I've really tried to get into this release. Listened to it about five times now. I wasn't expecting "Reign In Blood", "South of Heaven" or even "Season's In The Abyss". This album is more along the lines of their later releases, which is an era of Slayer that I do not prefer as much. Of course, the absence of Hannenman as a song writer and player is sorely missed. Gary Holt is more than capable of filling the spot but from my understanding Kerry King took the bull by the horns and wrote most of the material. I never liked the detuned style and find that there are more power chords than riffs.

Another band that needs to stop releasing music. It's about as a forced as some crappy local band that feels like they are gonna get signed if they shit out a 5 song EP of unoriginal garbage, except for Slayer in the over-an-hour format. Slayer died with Hanneman. Keep touring, but no more records, please.
