Didn't know they had a new record out. Liked Angels Of Distress so I'll probably pick this up at some point.

A funeral doom band putting the word 'monotony' into a recording title risks self-parody. I will probably listen to this at some point, because some of their past tracks have been good ( and...in the mist was tremendous), just definitely not all, or the majority of them either.

Unusual approach to funeral Doom North From Here. Funeral doom to me is something which demands attention. I have to be in the right mood to just sit there and experience it but the results are quite rewarding. Just me though.

I've defended the genre for years on this site (Monolithe is never monotonous for example, and Mournful Congregation or Skepticism are only rarely so), just observing that 'monotony' is not a word I'd want to use in my record title.

There's probably a decent list to be wrung out of badly-chosen doom album titles. My Dying Bride - The Dreadful Hours, Anathema - A Natural Disaster...

I think that's besides the point, Zad. I think what North is saying is that the word "monotony" is not the best word choice to include in a "funeral doom" album, where the music itself "depicts" and expresses a "monotonous" tonality to begin with. Titles like "The Dreadful Hours," and the other one you mentioned, represent the overall "feeling" of the album, while, a word like "monotony" extracts a different "meaning" where in which it does not seem apt nor very appropriate do use such a word. controversial debate, nevertheless.

"A Natural Disaster" suits Anathema's career path quite nicely though! Has anyone bothered to listen to the old doom Anathema records recently? They didn't age particularly well, particularly Serenades. Caspian over on metal-archives reviews had a quote I liked: "The Peaceville Three are a strange one in that one of them (MDB) is a few million times better than the others." I'm only half-joking when I write that Paradise Lost and Anathema stopped playing metal because they were depressed over how much better MDB did it than them

To be fair, I'll grant some good tracks on releases like "The Silent Enigma" or "Judgement" but Anathema's best recording imo was that transition album "Eternity" which was a nice hodgepodge of Pink Floyd worship and slightly doomy guitars.
