Great review Trapt! I haven't heard this yet but I will do so as soon as possible. You've definitely managed to make me more impatient than I already was. I disagree about Axe to Fall though, but then again it was my introduction to Converge. If you start out with Jane Doe or anything prior to Axe to Fall then I can see where you're coming from.

All cards on the table, I fell in love with them through Jane Doe so when I heard Axe to Fall, it clashed with what I expected. I think this is a step forward in the Axe sound while creating an atmosphere more in line with what I want from Converge. If review was tl dr, that basically.

I assume you're referring to the atmosphere of Jane Doe, so in theory the bolded part would be the perfect Converge album in my opinion. Colour me intrigued.

I quite liked Jane Doe as well (and elements of No Heroes), might as well as give this a spin since I see the record is being officially streamed on youtube.

I got through the first 4 tracks earlier today, really, really liked the guitarwork on sadness come home and trespasses, wasn't too fond of the other two.

I had a mixed reaction of "Converge are still really good" and "Not sure how much I like Converge anymore" listening to this. Like they're still doing they're thing and I can tell they're doing their thing well, but I was disappointed that it all sounded so Converge-y, which usually means I'm losing interest in the band's music. :-(

I felt the same as most. After Jane Doe things changed a little. I got into them on Petitioning the Empty Sky and have enjoyed them since, but Jane Doe definitely my fav so far. I will check this out. I've been in a really heavy mood lately.

Will check this out very soon.

I'm buying up most of their stuff in a storm, kinda want to avoid Jane Doe though as its an obvious mention and also one of the best hardcore albums of all time.

Have you never heard it? It kinda has eclipsed me listening to their other stuff as much and so I feel like you'd be better off putting it off, knowing that you'll love it.

Converge write the coolest riffs. This album feels a little more cathartic than Axe To Fall, which was more about being badass and writing really cool riffs and great songs.

As a total Converge newbie, I think this is spot on. I really liked Jane Doe very much, in fact it made me go out and buy this one as well, but I have to say, this one immediately appeals to me more.

As I've often said with reference to technical Death Metal (and other such complex genres) when the music gets really complicated, I much prefer being able to clearly tell what each musician is playing. That's very much the case on this album, more so than Jane Doe.

Long story short, I fucking love this a LOT. I'm going to have to get into the entire back catalogue, I think.

this was the first Converge album i heard from start to finish and i really enjoyed it. i think it could do without the slower tracks, or at least A Glacial Pace, as the vocals on Coral Blue are eerie enough to keep this 'breathing room' track interesting, there's just a tension to them, followed by release with the group vocals.

my favourites were Sadness Comes Home and Sparrow's Fall, but the first 2 tracks are also awesome. Trespasses is just crushing. title track is also great.

completely agree with what you said about how it's all distinguishable and how the album never devolves into cacophony. all in all, a great album.

i quite enjoyed Dark Horse and the title track off Axe to Fall, think that's where i am going next with Converge.

Faultless album, puts Jane Doe to shame. On par with Axe to Fall. Looking forward to seeing what these guys come out with next

YA RLY.
Imo I find Doe to be a bit over-rated... there are some fucking awesome songs in there (Concubine, Homewrecker, The Broken Vow etc), but I prefer AWLWLB and Axe to Fall.
