Ok, you convinced me grudgingly, I will give this a listen. Never easy with Agalloch, but I can't just ignore it.

Not sure if the first half just feels better because the sameyness hasn't set in yet or if it is actually better than the second half. Great point on the folk interludes, they are really, really good. This band is worth a listen, even I don't like all of it. 83/100 for now.

Listened to "Celestial Effigy". It's quite good with multiple layers of sound. I like it. I take back what I said about Agalloch before. I just needed a proper listen and to give them a chance again after their disappointing last effort.

I really like Ashes Against The Grain. The last record I didn't listen to as much and I haven't really checked out the Faustian Echoes EP but I'll have to give this a chance.

Husker, I thought Faustian Echoes was their best work ever. I had completely forgotten how good it was until listening to this made me relisten to that.

Thanks for the heads up. I'll check it out.

This album gets better with every listen. I wasn't a huge fan of Ashes Against the Grain or Marrow of the Spirit, but this is connecting like the first two did many years ago. Combined with Faustian Echoes, I think this band is on a real winning streak in 2014, something that sort of shocks me to say since I never thought they'd last 20 years as a band.
