I dunno, it isn't like Unspoken king, and Bar didn't write '15' or '96'. I've heard a couple tracks, and based on those I'm thinking 60-65. I think if you want a big shiftfest this time you will be disappointed.

I did notice that Aaron(Dead Machine) reviewed their last good album. Wow it has been that long...

First song I heard wasn't bad, but I'm not wasting my time listening to the entire album in order to bash it.

Gonna have to check it out, for all intents and purposes most comments I've read put this on par with their mid-era Hardcore influenced stuff.

Based on some of the things I know (or think I know) that you like/dislike, I'm pretty sure you would personally find this quite middle of the road. You wouldn't find much to bash, but you wouldn't find much to praise.

It's quite a different direction to that stuff. I could see it as the beginning of a new phase - if they can hold together a line-up and keep working towards this direction. They might even have another 85+ album in them.

That's what I expected from what I heard. Ultimately, I just expect it to be a mediocre album, created with the sole hope of being able to placate the hate.

Indeed. After the imagination and intelligence shown on Once Was Not, this is a pretty disappointing move for them.

Have you heard the whole album yet? As I said in the review, it is unquestionably less experimental than previous efforts, but in no way would I say it's devoid of imagination and intelligence. Especially given some time to sink in, it's actually pretty dense stuff. My score for this went up with every time I listened to the album, which was about 5 times. I had it somewhere in the 60s after the first listen.

I still don't want to listen to this whole thing, but you are making it hard to ignore it.

I remember writing an E-mail to Cryptopsy about how horrible I thought Once was not was. I don't like Lord Worm. I felt the technical music needed someone to punctuate the changes like DiSalvo did. Worm just kinda growled aimlessly over the precise changes and movements of the music which really bothered me. I really liked DiSalvo when I met him. We all smoked a joint in their van during the And Then You'll Beg tour or maybe it was Whisper Surpremecy when they were opening for Oppressor. He was not the traditional death metal voice, but I thought it really worked for their style. Anyway, I can't help but wonder if they read my E-mail cause they dropped Worm and got this guy. Unfortunately, he did some Emo style clean vox and it kinda ruined those songs. I think without the clean vox and more low growls that The Unspoken Kings would be a better album. I think Worship your Demons is an awesome song. I 'm looking forward to hearing this cause I wasn't quite as pissed as everyone else. Bands have duds once in a while. It happens. Don't completely write them off because of it.

Fuck you*, and fuck Disalvo, and fuck anyone that didn't like Once Was Not.

*half-joking.

But seriously, of all the odd opinions...

Very much agreed with this. Especially since this is a pretty good album.

But also kind of agreed with this.
