:dio:

Probably one of my top 5 metal songs of all time. After nine years that song still blows my mind every time I listen to it.

Well I'm glad someone posted something :). Yes that song is just perfect, I put it last to finish the album perfectly, after all this song has the most amazing closing part of any song I ever heard.

When I first listened I thought, this is the best way to finish an album, it just makes you want to hear the next album... in this case that next album never came and might never come :(. That's a shame.

To answer your article, I never make compilations, but I'm going to play a little game however: I'm going to keep the bands you picked, and see if I choose the same songs. Let's see:

01 Dream Evil - In Flames You Burn (Same pick)
02 Axxis - Tales Of Glory Island (Same pick, clearly)
03 Iron Fire - The Beast From The Blackness (Glory to the King)
04 Hammerfall - Any Means Necessary (Heeding the Call)
05 Herman Frank - Down to the Valley (Lights Are Out)
06 Nocturnal Rites - Still Alive (Fuck yeah: I'M STIIIILL ALIIIIIIIVE. *Ahem* Same pick)
07 Dragonland - The Black Mare (Astronomy)
08 Powerwolf - Panic in the Pentagram (Dead Boys Don't Cry)
09 Seventh Avenue - Terium (Futures Dawn)
10 Dragonforce - Inside the Winter Storm (Any, I don't like them much)
11 Excalion - Yoevartiv (Same pick)
12 Primal Fear - Iron Fist In A Velvet Glove (Fight the Fire)
13 Dawn of Destiny - Days Of Crying (Same pick)
14 Sonata Arctica - Juliet (San Sebastian)
15 Mercury Falling - Queen of pain (I don't know them)
16 Sabaton - Killing Ground (7734)
17 Manigance - Sentinelle (Ange ou Démon)
18 Running Wild - Victory (Firebreather)
19 Avantasia - Devil in the Belfry (Another Angel Down)
20 Pretty Maids - Pandemonium (LOUD AND PROUD)
21 Dragonfly - Quien Llora Ahora (No Lo Veran Caer)
22 Rage - Forever Dead (Great Old Ones)
23 Freedom Call - Space Legends (Ages Of Power)
24 Heavenly - Ashen Paradise (Keepers of the Earth)
25 DGM - The Alliance (I didn't know them, pretty good song.)
26 Blind Guardian - A Voice in the Dark (...And Then There Was Silence)
27 Lost Horizon - Highlander (The One) (Perfect to finish the compilation, yep)

6 picks in common we have :) (Out of 25 because I didn't know 2 bands)

Very interesting, thanks ! If I was going to make a classic type of selection, I would have picked the same songs as you for : Hammerfall, Powerwolf (actually I think I'll change that one :), cause it's even newer and I was picking mostly new-ish songs), Sonata Arctica, Manigance and Draqonfly !

So that would make more in common if I went for a classics best off with these bands, but I was going with a mostly let's choose newer songs. On the other hand I threw in old stuff in here too for Dream Evil, Lost Horizon.

For Blind Guardian for the classics I think I will go with Mirror Mirror or Lost in the Twilight Hall. For Heavenly a song from Dust to Dust, probably Victory (Creatures of the Night). Dragonland might also be Astronomy or Neverending Story.

The reasons I didn't is that I have picked these in other best offs, so I wanted to make it a bit different. I intend to make another best off soon with classics, though I'll make a melodeath best of first before that probably, that is if I find the time :D.

Seventh Avenue I hesitated between Terium and Future's Dawn, but I used both in other compilations... hence my choice. But to tell you the truth I hesitate to put it back to Future's Dawn :), After hearing the best off many times I think I want to go back to that song :).

My bad yes, I read your article a few days ago and forgot it was about newish material. It's good as it is, I say :)

And I certainly hope you find the time for the melodeath compilation, can't wait for that one!

The Betrayal, Priest and Servants are very tempting too. This albums owns so much indeed.

Im glad u tell me this, the lack of posting until today made me thought people couldn't care less with this idea.

I've been willing to do a melodeath best off for years ! So if i find time
I will try it for next week.
