First off, thank you for reviewing this album. I'm glad it was you reviewing it. This was one of my candidates for album of the year in 2011. Probably for the sheer darkness and imagery created. I am going to elaborate slightly on the title. The Barghest is a legend of a large ferocious black hound with sharp teeth thought to be driven or possessed by evil forces and Whitby is the small seaside town in England from which a lot of Barghest folklore originated. This album captures that foggy, dark, foreboding, ghost story feeling. Listen to it outside at night by a campfire to get the full effect. Aaron Stainthorpe's growls on this album are hands down the most wretched thing I have ever heard. He sounds like a zombie gargling blood. The melodies are beautiful and meaningful. The grooves are infectious and powerful. This whole song is a masterpiece. It's an eerie tale narrarated by the gods of dark imagery.

Thanks for the review Zad. The best of the big 3 indeed. :dio:

I liked how parts of this ep sounded like 1991 material, and parts of it sounded extremely 2011. Not many bands are this relevant 20 years after the beginning.
