Nice review, Steve. This album gets points in my mind for not sounding like anybody else, and having some really nice lead guitar work. Most of the compositions are pretty solid as well. However, I'd rate the album more in the 80 range, because frankly, I don't like the vocals (and they are too high in the mix), and some of the songs strike me as filler. Solid album from a solid band though, no doubt.
I can say that while some of the songs have sagging moments, I'm not quite sure if they at least qualify as filler to me. Not to mention that the remarkable production gives him no less of a tone he wouldn't normally have as the vocalist just has a deep guttural tone. That being said this album is slightly weaker than Mystic Places of dawn, and Esoptron is even weaker than this so I'm at odds with giving Esoptron an 80 when I get around to reviewing it.
