Ouch, you had me excited until the reference to Heljareyga, which to me is the epitome of boring, self-important folk metal. Still, I won't hold that against them and will check out Viathyn anyway. (Even though they sound like a new anti-anxiety drug!) Thanks!

Update: I like the samples I just heard. They remind me uncannily of the Italian band MADRYGHAL who released two good albums early in the last decade.

Well I didn't compare the two, I just said I like them both. :P But, I'm glad you like!

Maybe it's just the fact that I haven't listened to the album in good headphones, maybe it's because I don't have lossless copies of the songs, but I really can't find any fault in the production. It doesn't sound any worse than, say, Ensiferum's self-titled album. Certainly not the overpolished sound of Equilibrium's "Sagas" or the last 2 Ensiferum albums, but it's not that bad, IMHO. I like this slightly vintage sounding production.

The playing is terrific, by the way. One of the best folk metal albums I've heard all year.
