"emo-like clean vocals"

Can this shit stop? Seriously, every time a metal review talks about clean vocals they call them "emo like" or "emo inspired" when I can guarantee that the reviewer doesn't know shit about emo. Trust me unless the clean vocals sound like Cap'n Jazz or Rites of Spring then they're not "emo-like".

Oh fuck off will ya? Norma Jean is one of my favourite fucking bands, and focus on the review as a whole and not on one sentence.

Emo-like doesn't mean their emo through and through, but on that song, Day Seven: Falling From the Sky, he sounds slightly emo yes. I'll stand by that.

There's nothing wrong with sounding emo-like :S

Well, it's not my cup of tea, and Corey sounds way better doing his trademark alternating between screams and normal clean vocals.

I love how the phrase emo now completely ignores the emotional hardcore of the past.

I might check this out but after being punched in the nose at one of their concerts I don't think it'll leave anything but a bad taste in my mouth.

It can get violent at any hardcore-esque show, but getting socked at a Norma Jean show?, sounds like it got intense

As intense as a Christian metalcore concert can get I guess.

I think he means emo-like as in Jimmy Eat World or Brand New or whatever, you know, the way 99% of people use the term.

Noodles got it...

I didn't even think people cared for emo-hardcore anymore, so I didn't really think about it. I know emo-hardcore though, and will probably review some for next week.

You'd be surprised how little this is true with bands like Norma Jean having influenced a wealth of core-spawn bands out west.

Hmm.. Well, how do you define emo-hardcore exactly? As in the older branch of post-hardcore/hardcore punk, or newer trendier stuff?

Not an expert but The Spectacle and Orchid, perhaps? I have a friend who is really into classic emotional hardcore.

I think I need to get into this band. I heard A Media Friendly Turn For The Worst, and really liked it.

Yeah Orchid is a nice example though I consider them more screamo to be honest.

Anyway, I'll have an JR Ewing review up next week. Which is a band, that on their first and second album, displayed maybe the best emotional post-hardcore I've heard.
