I love this review for the fact that BFMV is so overrated it's not even funny.

Agreed with review, crap band. Hey, at least we'll get a rebuttal post from Frigid explaining that, actually, this is a masterpiece and the best album ever because it reminds him of sex.

Out of curiosity I went and watched their newest music video.

So what's the big fucking deal? They're not THAT bad. Actually, the song I heard sounds like a much more awesome version of Trivium (complete with bad but not as bad as Heafy vocals). Forgettable but competent Heavy/Thrash/Metalcore. What's with all the hate? Is it because they're on MTV or something?

Well...

And that's BEFORE you listen to them.

Seriously, my own personal hate-red of them comes from back in The Poison days, and has survived this long due to them still being awful. I hate Trivium too, if that's any consolation.

If band image determined quality of music Black Metal would be the worst thing since stale bread. I mean, come on, both Immortal and Dimmu Borgir look ridiculous, but one of them rocks and one of them sucks.

I still don't quite see what's so awful about this band. The reviewer mentioned lyrics, but I don't give two shits about lyrics so that doesn't really matter to me. There's nothing really good about them, but I have never heard anything by them that deserves the gallons of hate-o-rade I've seen dumped on them.

I'd honestly rather check this album out than re-listen to A Sense of Purpose.

Surely you mean AWESOME? But yeah, complaining about a band's image does have its downsides. In Flames, however, for all their faults will eternally be better than BFMV, and you'd be better advised to find some good metalcore rather than wasting your time on this. The vocals always put me off BFMV first, the crap songwriting second, and last I checked neither had improved, but I'll bite - which song is this video? I'm open to having my mind changed, but I did hear something from this album when it came out, and 'twas not good.

The song was The Last Fight.

I thought it sounded better by far than anything off of A Sense of Purpose, or most of In Flames material in the last 10 years. If BFMV is the worst that metalcore gets, I'm very disappointed in how crappy "true" Metal has gotten.

And that's BEFORE you see what they look like. :P

Yeah, I listened to that song Vrechek listed and it was ok. Competently generic is how I would describe it; not much else could be expected from a band on Sony, right?

If you've heard one song by this shitty band, you've heard the bulk of their entire discography, they put no soul their "music" they write only to sell records to people who buy from the likes of Trivium and the other pop corporate acts listed in this review. They're not worth wasting review space on this wonderful site

They make music for the mall rats of America and beyond.

Listening now... pretty sub-meh. Are you new to this? It sounds like most other metalcore bands, ever, and the vocals are still poor. In Flames are way better.

BFMV sucks, but it's kinda funny seeing Killswitch Engage cited as the height of Metalcore when they're probably just as bad.

Woah, man. You think Clayman is bad, even worse than BMFV? Clayman is an exceptionally good album. Hell, even Reroute to Remain has some good songs. I won't say anything about STYE, or ASOP, but Come Clarity was even decent. Watch it before you compare In Flames to Bullet For My Valentine.

No way. Howard's vocals are 100x better than this lot. KSE is the superior band by far.

I listened to the song My Betrayal off the new album and it was awful. That Scream Aim Fire song from the last album was kind of fun for about 2 minutes. Everything else I've heard from them is just awful.

He might be a good singer, but that doesn't stop their music from being formulaic and boring as hell.

I agree, not super original by any means. But (and a big but), they do what they do a hell of a lot better than BFMV.

I deleted my previous post, a little too confrontational I think.

Points:
1) What I've heard from BFMV is by no means good.

2) The Last Fight, was, I felt, bad but not as godawful as the reviewer's portrayal of the album.

3) I am new to metalcore in the sense that I've largely avoided it save for a few albums that people have recommended and one or two individual songs. The Last Fight sounds most like Trivium to me, what with the thrashier aspect (to be fair about 3/4 of the riffs were wimpy, and the rest were just bland). The only metalcore I remember genuinely enjoying was some of All Shall Perish's stuff. Even supposedly better bands like Killswitch and Mendeed don't appeal to me.

4) Not to go into too much detail, but I personally don't think much of In Flame's material, new or old. However, I will state that even their overrated early output is far far better than this. A Sense of Purpose is about level in terms of Do Not Want with this song.

5) My original intent in posting here was to see what the main reasons were that everyone else hated them. It seems those reasons are mostly catch-alls for mainstream metalcore. Valid, but a bit silly to me that people exaggerate so much when it comes to describing this kind of music. Perhaps it's because you all have heard much more metalcore than I so you're sick of even what outsiders would call decent stuff at this point (I can totally understand that; I feel the same way about Gothenburg Melodeath after having heard so much of it, hence the jab at In Flames)
