I've felt that all of his albums, while good, have been a bit lackluster. The guy can clearly write some amazing music, but I think he tries to work outside his comfort zone with his solo stuff. Commendable, of course, but it doesn't work that well. It's not like Jon and Zak haven't adopted the old Sava sound for their post-Savatage material.

And I don't really think this album has any more Savatage influence than previous albums outside of Chris's vocals, which I've always felt tried to emulate Jon a bit too much. Then again, I don't really think Chris is a great vocalist, so that's probably his natural singing voice, just not as powerful and soaring as Jon's.

Either way, he's released decent albums that I enjoy. I simply wish he'd tap into that brilliance we all know he's capable of.
