Just as I feared... out of what I heard when I streamed through the songs on YouTube, I expect I'll pretty much agree after I've bought the album myself and having it grown me.

Third Edguy album in a row that's simply "decent" but nothing spectacular like former albums. I do not think Vain Glory Opera or Theater of Salvation quality, epic-ness, etc. will ever be reached again. Those are brilliant.

Of course, it does somewhat simply come down to a taste thing though. Personally, I just like the bombast of those, versus the more commercial hard-rock style of the last few albums. And 10 years from now, I don't see HC, RR (especially) or this new one getting much play in my cd player.

On a side note, I'm not sure what it is about Hellfire club that possibly warrants a 100 score. That seems absolutely absurd. If that's a 100 (a perfect, flawless album - among the best in history???) then what should VGO and TOS be - 150?

70/100 on a good day. "The Pride of Creation" is a load of fun, but Tobias could have written most of these songs in his sleep a few years ago. This growing fascination with hard rock will be the end of him.

Never been a huge Edguy fan but I have to admit I do like a few of there heavier cuts like Nailed to the Wheel, Pharoah, Mysteria and Piper Never Dies.

I heard 3 songs from this new album on some site and it's funny you mentioned 'Bon Jovi' Chris cause that is the first thing that crossed my mind when hearing these new tracks. Kind of a Bon Jovi meets Areosmith mix. Obviously this is what Edguy wants, mass rock appeal. These songs were definately watered down for them to acheive that. Not for me thanks!

The review seemed pretty objective except for the 80 score?

Thanks! Instead of posting I will just say "Ditto" you said everything i was going to say your post! (lol) IMO you are 100% spot on and decent from Edguy does not cut it. The lack of bombast with Tobias vox does not cut it. He does not have a hard rock/AOR voice and he does not need to dwelve in that territory. This band needed to cling to its roots. Hellfire club is great, but that should have been the extent of their dabbling in various styles or so-called "broadening their horizons" if you will.
Simply put, Tinnictus Sanctus is merely a dust-collecter sadly to say.
Esp, if you are a fan of Bombastic power metal. As far as hard rock, just stick with Gotthard they do that style better than Edguy.

I also would like to add that the comedic touches are getting more and more and they simply need to go away if you ask me.
This was one of my all time favorite bands, but im dissapointed these days, sigh :lame:

sorry forgot my score. I give a 65. Im think it only gets in the 80s range, because we try to keep their past albums in our minds/thoughts rather than judging this album and its tracks for what they are. Mediocre at best!

what's up with the title anyway? Tinnitus is an illness! Constant high pitched noises in the ear. Sanctus means?

Well I guess that we won't see a return to the VGO,HFC or TOS sound anytime soon in fact I really doubt that we will ever see a return to those sounds again.

Which is sad because those are awesome albums that made Edguy who they are why would they abandon that is beyond me. I'm a firm believer of the old saying "if it isn't broke don't fix it".

I was kind of disappointed after listening to it the first time and it left me hanging for the next few spins, too. As a previous poster said, it's just lacking the epicness and the grand-ness of Theatre of Salvation and VGO. There's some good songs on this, though. The single is really great, Sex Fire Religion isn't bad either (I expected to be a joke-ish song but it's actually good) and also Speedhoven, which seems to hail a bit more to the older stuff.

This love of hard rock can be a good thing as there are many recent hard rock bands that I love like Seventh Key and even cheesier stuff like Last Autumn's Dream.. but honestly, I've never been big on the fusion of hard rock and power metal. The result just ends up boring me, most of the time. Hellfire Club still surpasses this and Rocket Ride by far, IMO.

Well I got this and new Thy Majestie and it isn't Edguy I have been listening to heaps that's for sure. They were one of my favourite bands but If I wanted to hear this stuff I'd listen to Bon Jovi,Kiss etc. Like I said before this is no Hellfire Club, their last great cd. TOS will always be their best for me.

Tinnitus is the high pitched ringing in your ears that most often results from overexposure to loud noises (heavy metal :P). Sanctus means holy.

Replay value with this one is also limited there isn't enough great tracks. If this was their debut it would be a good effort but given their past releases they can do better.

It's a play on words. You must have heard "Spiritus sanctus" (the holy spirit) mentioned somewhere. It's just a silly twist on it.

As for the album, I mentioned it in another thread but I'm not impressed. I don't care much for the new musical direction of Edguy. This is pretty much in the same vein as Rocket Ride. Maybe a little bit less silly lyrics but the music is uninteresting to me.

Great review Chris, this sums my feelings for the album perfectly:
Quote:
what I've listened here is not as strong as what was made before, not by a longshot (even though there are some moments where you feel that the spark is still there, its just not exploited, not even a little)

Personally i dont mind if edguy wants to move into hard rock territory, hard rock is okay in my book but sadly with the change the songwrtting suffered, i agree with you that there are some moments on Tinnitus where you feel that they still got it but they fade away just as quickly as they came, i can only hope that their next one would be a kick ass hard rocking album but for this i can only give it a 70/100 and thats being generous.

Yes there could be a little bit more variety. Most of the songs are sounding very similar.

Yeah, noticed that when I first stereamed through every track...
I don't mind too that they are heading into Hard Rock territory. What I don't like is the lack of good songs, melodies and the trademark bombastic feeling of the songs. Plus, the songwriting is just sad (NOT funny IMO). When Toby says "Tinnitus Sanctus is so great, even if my career would go down the drain and this would be the last album, I'll be more than happy to be remembered as the guy who recorded Tinnitus Sanctus"... It sounds like he's trying to justify this new shit. And don't give me that "I don't wanna play safe with a boring Power Metal stinker". From my point of view, what they are doing now is exactly that (without the PM :P ).

I don't think is a question about heavy/power metal Vs. Hard Rock.In this case is good music Vs. bad music.Nowadays Edguy is content releasing crap.Badly written un-memorable verses and choruses, un-catchy songs, and the worst singing I've ever heard from Tobias.'nuff said.
