You, sir, are a god. I still haven't paid proper attention to this album. I will do that now.

no, this is not a masterful slice of medieval Black Metal, but the path the band has chosen to follow, and once you’ve gotten over that, The Age Of Nero rocks pretty hard.

Fine and fair enough... I have yet to hear it and being the BM purist that I am, of course, anything after The Shadowthrone is both shunned and scorned. :D
But I will give it a listen... one question: are the blastbeats kept tastefully to a minimum, or at least tasteful?

Frost is a damn good drummer. He mixes it up well; pretty rare to hear him blastbeating in Satyricon now.

I must of course add that you have to get used to their sound now if you're coming to it straight from The Shadowthrone!

Frost is definitely badass. Not as technical as Hellhammer but still, fucking aces.

Well, actually I've heard a little bit of Volcano, etc. and enjoy a some of Nemesis.
I'll DL it and if I like it, I'll buy it.
Grazie.

Well, I've give it several chances. It's not so bad, really. It didn't seem as damn boring as Now, Diabolical was to me.. some songs don't really hit me but some (Sign of the Trident) are kickass.

Zad, why do I feel you were taking at shot at me and Kathaarian for last week on the Nemesis issue? Haha. No offense taken, though. Indeed, it's not Nemesis... but it's pretty decent to me, for what it is.

This is definitely a big plus from Now, Diabolical. The whole album is solid and while nothing truly amazes me on this record I think it's a good effort.

I wish there were a few more catchy parts in the songs, there are here and there but nothing like Possessed or Fuel For Hatred. =(

I must agree with teh review.

From a person who really liked most of Now Diabolical I find this to be very disappointing. The only song that sticks out is Black Crow On A Tombstone, the rest feels bland and boring.

But I must admit I haven't listened to it much yet. Hopefully some songs will grow on me but I really miss stuff like K.I.N.G., Fuel For Hatred and Now, Diabolical that instantly had you hooked.

The first song I heard was the EP version of My Skin Is Cold, and I found that pretty gripping. The rest of it's like N,D for me, I prefer to listen to the album as a whole and get the gradual shifting atmosphere rather than individual songs.

The official vid for Black Crow On A Tombstone

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=l0AQP-_8V4I

I watched it twice in a row and cried tears of laughter both times. About thirty seconds in, the fun starts... my god.

It's the black metal version of Rick Astley.

It would be even better if he was making those silly faces from behind the wheel of his Porsche.

Just gave it a listen. First impression is favorable, in fact a step up from their previous post - Nemesis efforts.
I rather think the hooks in the songs work well for them.

Black Crow on a Tombstone is one very enjoyable song, although the rest didn't really grab me after the first listen. Going to see them on tuesday though :dio:

IMO it lacks some catchy hits like KING or A new Enemy or Fuel for Hatred BUT the whole mood is more dark and sinister and the average quality of the songs is overall a little more balanced on a higher level (compared to Now, Diabolical)

KING must be the worst satyricon song ever.

At least it swings and it's groovy. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dJh7Oik-Js0  (I think, this is only possible in norway) This puts the video of Black Crow On A Tombstone in a different light. And the difference between Age of Nero and e.g. Nemesis Divina is what I meant in the other thread. There are different ways how BM can sound.

Just... what are you on about? A Fuel For Hatred is from Volcano, not ND, and Volcano has songs like Black Lava, which is very dark and sinister. My Skin Is Cold and Black Crow are very catchy.

And I don't get your point with the live KING video.
