I really can't find much to like in this album.

Actually, you left Wasting My Hate out of your description. That's actually a cool song with a biting main riff (it's not every band that can take a Stevie Ray Vaughan-ish blues riff and make it so punishing).

Anyway, I agree with pretty much everything said here (except that The Outlaw Torn is IMO the best song on the album, and I'd give the album a score in the mid/upper-80's - 88/100, perhaps). Although I'd like to add that I think Poor Twisted Me was supposed to be needlessly self-pitying. Rumor has it that its lyrics are supposed to parody the self-loathing attitude of the grunge/alternative rock popular at the time. I love that song's guitar solo btw. Kind of reminds me of an episode of The Peanuts, if that makes sense.

Favorite songs? The first five, Bleeding Me, Cure (hey, the guitar solo in the middle is actually pretty cool), Wasting My Hate (despite some rather obnoxious lyrics), and The Outlaw Torn. Ronnie is also a cool song, despite being rather unusual for a Metallica song.

A couple of bad tracks, a fair amount of decent tracks and a few good ones. Maybe slightly better than Reload overall. I definitely don't agree with Ain't My Bitch being the best on Load, I think it's right there in the middle of the "decent tracks" songs. Nothing special. Same with 2x4.

The Outlaw Torn is possibly my favorite on Load, though it doesn't quite reach the same feeling found on S&M. Bleeding Me is very good too, I must agree with that.

It's a good album though, if the mood is right. I'll rate the album once I get to go over it properly again, but I'm thinking 60-something. I definitely don't agree with it being 79/100 but you can't argue with personal taste.

I watched an episode of The Sopranos and they were at the Bada Bing (Tony's strip club) and King Nothing was playing in the background while the girl danced. I remember thinking the song was really cool, so when the show was over I went and pulled out Load and went right to King Nothing. Listened to it once or twice then gave the whole album a spin. I really like this album, though i'm a sucker for bluesy rock/metal. I know that's weird coming from me, but I love going for long drives and throwing on a pure blues or a blues rock/metal album and just cranking it. The ultimate driving tunes.

Ain't bitch was great, 2x4 was very good and there are some times, when I can enjoy even the Hero of the Day and Until it Sleeps and King Nothing, but the whole record is just too dull, lame and nothing half and nothing complete. Just toooooo mainstream, toooo slow, toooo boring, toooo much rock. Nothing against rock, but rock has to be fast and cool like Guns n Roses, AC/DC before Ballbreaker or Airbourne or the first Velvet Revolver. This is just lame. Especially songs like "Outlaw Torn", "Bleeding Me" or "The House Jack Built", because they ARE tooo long and too slow.

The thing I find interesting about this album (and its sequel) and peoples opinions on it is that the general consensus is usually "a handful of good songs and some filler" then they go on to name 4 or 5 of the good tracks.

The interesting part being that everyone seems to have a different idea of what those 4 or 5 tracks should be. To the point where if you talk to 4 or 5 people, just about every track is supposed to be one of the good ones.

Which leads me to believe that the whole thing is strong.

That I can agree on!
Load is probably the stongest Metallica album along with Master Of Puppets.

Blasphemy! To say that the worst (Load) is in one league with the best (MOP) is nearly a sacrilege. This is like saying that Diabolus in Musica would be the best record from Slayer...or X the best of Def Leppard...or Risk the best of Megadeth...or Eye to Eye the best of the Scorpions...

That would only be true if you're a mental and think that Load was worse than St Anger.

Actually, I do think that Risk is the best Megadeth album along with Rust In Piece and, a little behind, Countdown to Extinction... Whatsmore, it's the only one where Mustaine really sings and does quite a good job at it. :P

And this says enought. :P Risk is not that bad, but the best? Peace Sells, Rust in Peace, So Far So Good So What, Killing is My Business etc. are all way better.

Depends what you're looking for...
The only major flaw Risk has is the name "Megadeth" on the cover. Otherwise it's a great pop-metal album.

This is probably the only Metallica album I ever stuck with. I think this shows a mature and experienced Metallica playing music that I think really suits them. It's a shame they got off track, because I'd probably still be a fan if they kept the style they had going on this album.

So...you were put off by the change in style from Load to Reload? Wow you're picky.

If you dig this, I don't see why you would've like all their 90's output.
