Agreed. This isn't half as bad as people say it is. It does what it was meant to do, destroy your fucking ears. I like it.

If you castigate Marduk for being AntiChristian, it doesn't leave many Black Metal bands that you can't also criticise without being hypocritical. Ooh, Emperor, wannabe wizards! Darkthrone, silly Satanists! And why is this music for retards when, ooh, Machine Head isn't?

You seriously fail to get it... yet agian.
But anyway, on to the next matter:
Empereor were, what? 16 yrs. old? they dropped that bit pretty quick, didn't they?
And Marduk sucks first and foremost because the "music" is lame, pedestrian blastbeat monkey slobber. Generic, unimaginative riffs, retarded mindless blastbeats, the trying oh-so-hard to be evil and blasphemous, yeah right, ... it's a joke.
Emperor - ITNE is the opposite of lame, and as for BM in general, I listen to the music; if it is well done, I don't really care about all the otehr bullshit.

Oh, and when did I EVER mention Machine Head? that's right. Never.

My thoughts exactly.

I can't get into it. It just sounds like a wall of noise to me, therefore, I find that Marduk has no redeeming musical value at all.

Eh, it's not a wall of noise, the blastbeats are not retarded, the riffs are not all the same... I dealt with all this in the review. Still, like my closing sentence said, it's the sort of album you have to listen to if just to hate. The entire Black Metal scene is a joke when looked at from a certain angle... certain bands rise to the top, and Marduk are certainly an important band of the scene.

Oh and one other thing about these guys that is lame:
their name.

Anybody that has the slightest bit of knowledge behind the folklore of Sumerian mythology / The Necronomicon should know the basics:

"There was a battle between the forces of "light" and "darkness" (so-called) that took place long before man
was created, before even the cosmos as we know it existed. It is described fully in the Enuma Elish and in the
bastardised version found in the NECRONOMICON, and involved the Ancient Ones, led by the Serpent
MUMMU-TIAMAT and her male counterpart ABSU, against the ELDER GODS (called such in the N.) led by
the Warrior MARDUK, son of the Sea God ENKI, Lord of Magicians of this Side, or what could be called
"White Magicians"...

Marduk is the one that defeated the Sumerian equivalent of Satan / Leviathan / Lucifer, depending on language, translation, culture, etc.

Marduk = leader of The Elder Gods, e.g. forces / powers etc. of light and "white magic"
Tiamat = Leader of The Ancient Ones, e.g., forces , powers, what have you, of darkness and "black magic".

They are obviously confused, or just stupid.
If you are going to tap into a specific myth for your namesake, you should at least research it a little, ya think?

Even assuming that they read a different version of the myth to you, why on earth would that matter? You've said elsewhere that you dislike Absu, who 'got it right'; what, isn't the music enough to like/dislike a band? Who cares what the name ultimately is? Marduk was a Babylonian god, that's enough to make it worthy of having a Swedish Black Metal namesake.

Because it's moronic.

No, this band has absolutely nothing, but nothing (other than unintentional humor, that is) going for it.

Oh and Absu blows due to reasons exclusive to their name.

What's fucking ridiculous is a so-called Black Metal band calling themselves Marduk... by your thinking Krishna, or Vishnu, or maybe Mithras would be suitable as well.
They are a "satanic" anti Christian band... Marduk was the defeater of the "forces of darkness", the Master of White Magic, etc.
What about the roles of deities in mythology vis-a-vis good and evil, light and dark, black and white is so hard to understand?

haha, there's more than one version of the Enuma Elish, or the Necronomicon, for that matter? Doubt it.
The Readers Digest condensed version?

There ought to be one called "The Necronomicon For Dummies" for these guys, though.

Was Marduk the Babylonian sky-god invented by the Necronomicon, then?

Necronomicon is based, in part, on the Enuma Elish...
The same battle between Tiamat and Marduk occurred in the Enuma Elish...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enuma_Elish

and

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enuma_Elis ... brew_Bible

I'd say they are named after the Sumerian / Babylonian equivalent of the god of the Old Testament...

Hmph... calling your band after the king of the gods is such a terrible choice? Perhaps they meant to be subversive by using Marduk's name for evil, who the fuck cares? It just seems like nitpicking to me. Marduk was a powerful god, and is a great name for a Metal band.
