I honestly haven't taken time to listen to Antithesis yet... I really enjoyed Carved in Stigmata Wounds, though.

Do you know if the new album is as proggy as it was? If so, I'll definitely enjoy it. Psychoccult Hymn is my favorite song from the band. :dio:

Sorry, CISW is the one album from them that I haven't heard. All I can say is that it's not Proggy as in widdly keyboards, but is in a more subtle sense, arrangements and so forth. It takes time to grow on you, definately - don't take one listen and go 'ew, it sounds like Satyricon' because there's much more going on. Don't get super-high expectations either, as it's not a classic, just a pretty good album from a pretty good band.

I just downloaded the album to give myself a rough opinion and I'm definitely getting it soon. If you like this, you should definitely enjoy CISW, Zad. The style is rather similar, really.

The problem with "progressive" is that way too many people associate the term with instrumental-wankery. This band just does it and keeps things interesting by their dynamics.

And, funny you mention Satyricon because honestly, I never really paid (enough) attention to the band... only album I have is Nemesis Divina (for Mother North, duh) and I know I don't like the black'n'roll style of the two last albums... and I definitely didn't see much similarity between Nemesis Divina and Secrets of the Moon... but that may be my hearing just being quirky... I'm not good at "this band sounds like that band" statements... haha.

Ha, I meant the post-Nemesis stuff from Satyricon. Glad you like it, will try and find CISW.

This is one of the albums that I feel I should like but just can't seem to get into.

What I especially like about them is not really their originality per se, but rather how they use lyrics cleverly and don't fall into the old boring "the Bible is shit", "Hail Satan" and stuff like that. Their lyrics are more researched and Crowley-inspired and I like that from them.

Musically wise... I honestly don't know much bands they make me think of but I'd say there's a few Celtic Frost-isms here and there... some parts just stick out and stay with you, which to be completely honest, is what (to me) I feel is missing from bands like Deathspell Omega, who I agree are awesome but for some reason just don't do much for me.

DsO have their hooks, even FAS, but you have to listen repeatedly.

Hmm... I guess so... lots of bands are like that. Which DsO album would you say is best to begin with?

Well, Kenose is their easiest to get into probably but Si Monvmentvm is one of the greatest albums ever released but it's a bit long and hard to get into. I'd say go with Kenose. Their earlier albums are raw bm a la Darkthrone but are still awesome.

Kénôse, huh? Thanks, sounds good. I'll go with that and after I'll move to Si Monvmentvm. I do remember parts of the latter reminding me of stuff like Elend. And no problem with long black metal songs and albums, I do like Blut Aus Nord (the early stuff).
