I tried so much to like the new one... it just won't reveal itself to me, I guess. Their turn for a blacker sound is just not appealing to me. I much prefer the epic viking ventures of Ukraft... Thyrfing started to stray with Farsotstider and Hels Vite is just the logical step after that. It's just that I'm not following anymore, unfortunately...

Yeah, I know you did. It's just a part of me was hoping Farsotstider was a one-off, you know? But I guess not. I'm not a bad album by any means.. and to be honest, it's nice to see that some bands go back to their roots rather than "wimp out" and go the more accessible route. So kudos to them for that.

The first few weeks my opinion on this was of a Moonsorrow/Falkenbach rip-off. I seriously thought they were going to go back to the sound on Vansinnesvisor. Still, this album took its time to grow on me. Like you said Alex, the gloom and doom is there, just should have been made more interesting to the listener. The new singer, Jens Ryden, is excellent and I don't miss Thomas Väänänen in the least. The keys are also one of strong points - used sparingly to provide epic, atmospheric background. Highlights are definitely Griftefrid and my favorite Becoming The Eye. Like you said not their best, not their worst too.

I miss their older material, but I think this is still very entertaining. I didn't mind Farwhateverrider, and this is pretty solid as well.

Thanks for the review.
