I've been wanting to get something from Therion for awhile. Where's a good place to start?

Do you like high art Sweede Death Metal or you want to here operatic metal?

Their first 3 if you want to hear some of the best Death Metal ever.

Theli if you want to here them before the got a little to full of themselves and then if you can stomach that what dude said about Vovin and Deggial.

I'm really excited about hearing this album; I ordered the digipack from the Therion store last week so it'll come autographed :) .

I'm really curious to hear the difference the vocal changes bring to the Therion sound, as from reviews and what songs I've heard, it really feels differently than Lemuria/Sirius B.

I really respect Chris and Therion in general during their move from death metal to symphonic metal. From what I've read, it seems like Chris was pursuing an artistic passion, which is so metal :dio:

I remember when a friend of mine bought Lemuria and Sirius B, and we got really drunk, and spent hours raving in hyperbole about how great it was. I still love it. I've only heard one song off this, but it sounds quite good, if a bit different.

The Therion I have is Lemuria/Sirius B, Deggial and Secret Of The Runes. So that's lots of the classical stuff, how does that compare to the more death stuff?

As Lee mentioned already, Therion was a brilliant death metal band as well. Beyond Sanctorum remains one of my top 10 favorite death metal albums, and the other two are good as well.

More people should check out Lapaca Kilfroth too, as it was basically a mix of the Theli sound and their deathy days.

It's not yer daddy's Therion, as the saying goes. It still sounds like Therion, you can recognize the songwriting, but the style has shifted away from the full symphonic sound. Mostly the vocals are responsible as there are very few sections with the female operatic vocals. It's mostly more normal rock style vox, but with many different singers (male and female). Lots of variety and the songwriting is SUPERB!

I said it before, I'll say it again. If this ain't the top of the heap at the end of 2007 I'll gladly eat my hat. And I'll be listening to at least two brilliant albums while I'm dining.

Therion have been one of my favourite bands for the past few years. I got into them after listenin to 'Cult of the Shadows' on a mixed tape compilation. I enjoy their Death Metal days very well but I prefer their symphonic ones at present. It really showed their capability and creativity as great musicians.

My favourite Therion album is definitely 'Theli'. The rest are excellent as well. No complaints.

After reading the review, I'm bent on buying this one soon.

Looks like Theli is the place to start with Therion, and move onward from there. If I really like them, I'll probably pick up the stuff that came before Theli eventually.

That's definitely their definitive album so far. It's a must to have.

Very impressive album, certainly not better than their previous effort (which in my opinion was their best), but id easily give it a 90/100. Its a shame that the death growls are lost on this one and I wish they would have had at least 1 of their 7 guest singers that could provide that kind of vocals.

I agree that "Lemuria/Sirius B" is better. I bought this 2 weeks ago. I've listened to the entire thing twice. If this makes any sense..I like the first CD better than the second. Overall, I'm not that impressed with this release. It may find it's way to Ebay soon. :omfg:

The only Therion stuff I heard is Lemuria/Sirius B which were really fucking great. I'll probably check out some of the songs from this before I buy it though.

For the reviewer! :)
I think every time when i listen to may favourite band - Therion - i am reading the reviews from your webpage. And i can add that it's a real enjoyment to read exactly what i think about their music. But if it's not a big issue i would love to read also about their previous releases, such as Beyond Sanctorum, Symphony Masses: Ho Drakon Ho megas *my personal best*, Lepaca Kliffoth and of course about Theli! I hope that my wish it's also shared by other Therion fans who read this webpage. So i'm waiting for an "archive" review of those LP's. Hail Therion, Hail Metalreviews.
