Pffft! I always make sense, unless I'm cavorting with typos.

And Andrew shouldn't care what people think; review the way you want to review. Some people love my reviews, some people don't. That's how it goes. I'll just never connect with a review that doesn't tell me about the album and the songs, etc. Not a big deal.

Thank you for your supportive words although, fortunately, I am not bothered by outside opinions regarding my reviews for, as I stated earlier, it is impossible to please everyone, and utterly a pointless task. I compose a review the way I'd care to read one, and as long as one is passionate (as am I, if one could not tell :p) then there should be no disdain amongst reviewers, regardless of writing styles and/or personal tastes.

There is no disdain; never doubt that. Even the Evanescence review, which I am 100% against because I don't feel it's a review, does not reflect my opinions toward Ross but simply his review. Nothing more.

Good folkish album. Some of the songs just don't click in with me so i'd rate it somewhere around 70-75. What I like most in this album is this.........ahhhh it's so cool, i want a poster.

Ah, definitely a very cool cover. Almost like the cover of a twisted childrens' book.

By the way, I've put this on my Want List on lala.com. I doubt anyone there will have it, but I'm hoping. And it'd better be killer! =)

It is certainly a relevant question to ask why I do not have an issue with Misha's reviews while this one of Andrew's grated with me so.

I believe that the gist of Eyesore's point is that Misha and Andrew have something in common: their review style is "alternative" and less straight to the point. Misha has done some writing that did not sit well with me (the first paragraph of the review for the VIBRACATHEDRAL ORCHESTRA album). However he has done many reviews (WOODS OF YPRES, BEKHIRA, KÁTAI TAMÁS, FOREST OF FOG, etc) that do not languish in what I would call descriptive masturbation.

Quote:
Although there are assuredly now countless forays of Viking metal acts roaming the many shores of Europe, it is undoubtedly evident that few possess the rustic, archaic, Heathen charm of Asmegin that seems to drown the listener in organic textures of pure, raw, cold Nordic metal atop lush, supernal folk euphonies declaring allegiance to a spirit now long-since forgotten by the confines of modern social circles.

I'm sorry? Could you repeat that?

Quote:
...Asmegin cascade the listener with a majesty so natural it is often spellbinding whilst listening to the authenticity displayed throughout this audible representation of the hyperborean harshness yet alluring beauty of the Nordic lands.

There is good writing and then there is writing that is SIMPLY TRYING TOO HARD. The MUSIC can describe the nordic lands to me, its not the reviewer's job.

I could go on, but I think my point is made.

Before you DARE criticise me of hypocrisy or unwarranted favouritism, go read Misha's review of FOREST OF FOG - Nebelhymnen. Now THAT is a fucking Metal Review.

Out of 7 reviews you have given 4 albums a 95+ rating which should be only given to extremly rare albums that are somewhat groundbreaking in their genre.

One could almost think this review was on a poem instead of a cd. The review should concentrate on the sound overall. Is the production good? Are there choirs in the chorus? Some comparisions to other bands? Describe some of the best songs...

I understood that perfectly, and it's fine for a metal review. Aren't we all übercheesy anyway, be it black, power, or heavy metal?
