I heard "This Calling," and that song is waaaaaay too cheesy to make me take anything by these guys seriously.

It's melodic metalcore and the vocalist is Phil Labonte, what were you expecting "BROTHERHOOD XCOREX" BREAKDOWN!

I can't say I was expecting anything. All I heard was a really cheesy song, and it didn't really work for me.

This Calling isn't exactly the first song you should check out. Not that you could have known ofcourse. Give It Dwells in Me or The Weak Willed a listen, maybe you'll like those more.

This is probably one of my favourite mainstream metalcore records. And Labonte is an awesome vocalist. He's even better on stage. I still cannot believe how they ruined everything on Overcome though. Here's hoping that the new album will be some kind of a comeback.

As was noted above, the editorial touch here is very light, partially because Management just doesn't have the time to read each and every review, but partially because giving our writers as much freedom as possible is a good thing, in my view, leaving boundaries to common sense. I generally try and glance through reviews before updating for obvious errors, and I did note this and made an 'eww' face, but I didn't feel comfortable actually deleting it. The trouble is with this situation that there is no line in the sand at all and what some see as freedom of speech, others see as completely unnessary. I'll normally defend freedom of speech to the death (metaphorically speaking) but I'm not sure that a metal review actually counts as that.

For the moment, I'd like to leave things as they are. If we get enough complaints, however, I'm sure that harder lines will be taken; if anyone feels strongly one way or the other, please don't hesitate to get in touch with me by PM or email or whatever.

I didn't say I was offended. I said I thought I thought it was disgusting and not something I want to read. I did say it could offend a lot of other people and would therefore be detrimental to the website overall. Unless I'm mistaken, you don't own this website and so, in point of fact, you cannot write whatever you want. The editing hand here seems to be very light, but again, unless the server's in your name, there are limits to what you can write. Additionally, I'd ask you to refrain from personal attacks. Until we're standing face to face, they don't really mean much and only serve to cheapen the discourse.

Sorry about that, I was drunk when I posted that. No personal rancor, man, I didn't mean to attack you. I just get upset about censorship and stuff. We're metalheads, we're supposed to be vulgar fucks. You're very right in that I don't own the website and therefore should be subject to the limitations imposed by the administration- and as far as I know, I am well within those. We've had reviews before that used very graphic metaphors to describe how shit an album was, I just took it from a different perspective, and because "OMG WE CAN'T JOKE ABOUT MENSTRUAL STUFF" it seems different.

All hilarious zingers aside, the start of the review does remove some of the mystery about why there aren't more lay-dees in metal.

Fridge, the issue here is not your sexual foibles, it's whether the rest of us want to discuss it. I'd wager that were I to ask that question in a poll, the majority would not want to talk about it.

I've recently had a discussion about exactly that with my friends and one of them said he wouldn't have a problem with it. So it seems you're not alone on this!

But still, way too much information.

imo the annoying thing about the opening line is being apologetic for liking a metalcore album. That's so 2005.

It's not a discussion about it, it's a metaphor that describes quite accurately the importance of TFOI within the metalcore context. So phooey.

I once knew a dude that would eat out his girlfriend when she was menstruating.
Claimed he sucked on her used, clotted tampons, too.

Cradle of Filth fan, I take it?

Seriously, for the love of god, can this sick nonsense not get its own thread in Helheim, if it must be discussed at all?

No.
We were pretty big into Venom, Hellhammer, Motorhead.
He was the bassist for our little proto trio back when we were in (more like out) high school.
I played drums; had two kits put together (the Tama SS was a gift from my parents, the Ludwig kit, well bass, two toms, was given to me by my drum instructer, one was black, the other pearl grey)
.

Actually, it's a simile, not a metaphor. It's a quite clever simile at that. It's just gross is all.
