I have listened to this, then immediately went back and listened to SMRC, and then listened to Fas again. That feel of evil, menace, fear is there, no matter the style, just like Adam said. But something kept nagging about the rhythm section, and the sliding guitars, so I kept digging in my mind, until I think it clicked, especially with the cleaner production. It reminds me a bit of Zyklon's last two albums, believe it or not, so blackened technical death metal it is.
I've always felt black metal's most unique aspect is the attitude of its sound, and Fas definitely has that attitude. I can see your comparison, though. I'd call it 50% black (Aspa's vocals, evil atmosphere and attitude), 50% tech-death (rhythm section). Some will disagree on the genre tag, but it is hard to deny that their sound has changed a lot from SMRC.
