A score of 90 and claimed to be the Album of the year, plus an nine page discussion this release is legendary. I must have the wrong version so I'm taking mine back to exchange it.

Well, he can be a reviewer after that long. Why not? However, he doesn't understand the core concept of reviewing, which is being honest.

Being forthright about why the album scored higher than it deserved may make the reviewer honest, but it doesn't make the review honest.

What do you need to know? You listen to the album and write an honest review. Yeah, history helps of course; I can't imagine reviewing a jazz album and having it be that deep. However, inexperienced with jazz or not, I could write an honest review, even if half-assed.
