I say start with some Bodom or Wintersun. They are basically Power Metal with Harsh vocals. Many will disagree, but that is my take on them.

I don't think he should try Bodom,or extreme stuff;first thing to do in his case is to listen to the classics:Maiden ,Priest,Megadeth,Metallica,Sabbath(Powerslave,Painkiller,Rust in Peace,Ride the Lightning,Heaven or Hell,Paranoid,7th Son,etc)!

Totally agree

I'd suggest you go here, Mr Phoenixfyre:
http://www.heathenmetal.com/index2.html and go and then go to "Media" to get two classic free (and completely legal) melodic Speed/Thrash albums from Heathen. What have you got to lose? 40 minutes of your life at the most if you dislike the first one.

Listen to Mr. Radagast. He's a wise man.

I think we can all just agree that Karma, Epica, and TBH just own. Which is better is just a matter of personal preference so there is no use making a big deal of which one is .001 better than the other one.

Yes Orion, no doubt i agree with what you said, i'm a big Kamelot fan, i put the Fourth Legacy in there, they have gotten better and better with each album, and The Black Halo is freaking awesome from top to bottom, these guys are on top of the game. Fourth legacy, Karma , Epica, Black Halo, come on theyr'e all good. I like to mention also that in this album you see some Conception influences, (Khan's previous band), i recommend listening to some of theyre music, is really mostly unknown but is amazing too. Can't wait to see them in concert and wow try to top this album next time, i have no doubt these guys can.

97/100 my rating

Damn, I was reorganizing my CD-collection lately and guess what I found?
"Parallel Minds" bij Conception. Put on the CD and then I realized the singer sounds kinda similar to ...
Stupid me.
