Well these kind of things usually suck.

He runs a good site I'll give him that but if it will be all definitions copied from the site to the book with a few "so I swallowed a pound of Valium..." stories of Mustaine then I'll pass.

If I can find these at my local library then I'll definitely give them a shot. If they are of poor quality, just wait a few years and I'll write my own book for each sub-genre of metal. I'll use some forum members as sources too.

These books usually suck, and by suck, I mean are horrible abominations- but I'll check this one out of the library.

There won't be any of these kind of books in our library here. And if they're sold at our bookstores, it would cost a big bomb. I'll pass.

The only metal book I've bought was basically a Metallica biography that passingly mentioned other bands and it annoyed me enough to not want to buy any others.

'Sound of the Beast' by Ian Christe isn't a bad introduction to metal.

I ain't gto no links, but the book's basically a history of metal, though it does a slightly odd thing of using the story of Metallica as a sort of spine for the story of metal in general. It's a bit out of date now, it only goes up to 2002 or so. it also, bizarrely, manages to mention drone-doom withoutmention Sunn O)) (they were around in 2002 weren't they?)

Yeah that's the one I got, it was well written but spent too much time on Metallica.

I was browsing through the website, soundofthebeast.com and came across synopsis's of each chapter. Damn you guys are right....It revolves around Metallica too much.
