There were creative elements on St. Anger? This truly is shocking news.

Of course there were. Dint that album show us how trash cans could be used as drums? :P

St. Anger certainly taught me how trashcans are the best place to store your collection of Metallica albums.

my bet is it'll suck horribly, but there's always that little bit of hope that they will somehow make another album that can stand alongside their first four.

I want it to be good. That would be amazing, and frankly, there arent enough amazing things in this world.

Yes, there were some creative elements on St. Anger (the article didn't say that, though). St. Anger had some really kick ass parts; it just sucked overall.

What Metallica should do is to go back and listen to all the old school music that inspired them when they were young. Lynyrd Skynyrd, Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath etc. That was what inspired them to write those four great albums. I seriously think they need to go back in time and start from scratch.

There's only one word that is relevant in what you just said. It'll never happen.

My guess is that the new album might be a combination of Load & The Black Album. I don't expect something that is fast paced or thrashy. I stopped expecting anything good from these guys after Load/Reload. I won't be disappointed if the new album is a pile of crap. Just curious to know how it would sound like. Incase, they do surprise me by putting out a solid album , I will pick it up. And by solid album, I mean good songs irrespective of whether they are fast paced, heavy or not.

St. Anger deserves to be reviled as perhaps the most bizzare release in metal history from a major act. However I did find some inspirational metal in amongst the mess. It needed a good edit and well the production... what can one say.

However wading through 60 minutes of shit to find a few gems is too much for even this dedicated Metallica fan.

If its not thrashy they deserve to die...

That was three words, Ken

But damn you're right. It's pointless thinking of the impossible.

RIP Metallica......
