Thanks for the welcome all you Metalheads, looking forward to recommending some good choons to melt your minds with. There will be some of you who will agree with what I write and others who will think I am spinning the biggest load of crap ever. Over the years I have been coming to Metal Reviews to find out what's all happening in the Metal World, I've noticed you readers are not shy to put across your point. Healthy discussion is good, music produces different emotions in different people. What I think is really lame is someone coming back with the old one liners like - "You're talking crap, that band's shit". These usually come from socially disfunctional oiks that can only communicate with other people via forums, IMs and chat rooms, who would dissolve into quivering wreck should they have to forcefully discuss anything face to face, and have a music collection from 4 or 5 bands consisting of every Album, Vinyl, Single, Bootleg, Foreign Bonus Track Release and compilation 'Their' Bands appear on. So, good people, if you think I'm talking shit about a crap band, please give me your reasoning on how you came about that statement. What you have to remember is I write about how the music affects me personally not how I think it will be perceived by everybody else. Though I do try to give an unbiased opinion, obviously, if I like something, then my review will be swayed to the positive; and vice versa.
About myself: I am a 48 year old fart, living near Edinburgh, Scotland, who spent 23 years in the Army who broke me and live off a military disablement pension which allows me to indulge in my favourite pastime of wallowing in the pleasures of Metal Musick. I help out in the local Metal scene by recording bands' live gigs (so they know what they sound like from the crowd side of the monitors), take pics for their websites, publicity etc and generally help out where I can: promoters are less likely to try and rip off a grizzly old ex-grunt than a spotty, clueless 18 year old.
My favourite bands are (as I read off the CDs stacked next to me) - Dragonforce, Iced Earth, Children Of Bodom, Amon Amarth, Arch Enemy, Nevermore, Lamb Of God, Manticora, Immortal, Dark Tranquillity, Nile, Kamelot, Carnal Forge, Dark Age, Falconer, Trivium, Nocturnal Rites, Pre-split Dark Moor, Sonata Arctica, Lost Horizon, At Vance, Hammerfall, Galloglass, Windir, Zimmers Hole, Cryonic Temple, Avenged Sevenfold, At The Gates, Decapitated, Blind Guardian, In Flames, Poison, Throne Of Chaos, Ed Guy, Masterplan and a whole boatload more that are in little piles all over the house; much to the annoyance to 'She-Who-Must-Be Obeyed'.
So, hope to catch up with y'all, one way or another, in the future and though you may not all agree with what I say in my reviews, I hope they will be informative and entertaining.
