Glad to hear.I hope their new singer isn't a Tarja clone.I want someone unique that will offer something new to Nightwish.

Its probably a good thing that they are taking their sweet-ass time to find a new singer...

Man. this is good news. Tarja's gone and there's no point predicting what a flop it would be. With the amount of talent the rest of them have, I bet it's gonna be a hit. I hope they find a really good vocalist. Like you guys said, no rip offs, as long she's unique.

By the way, Tarja deserved the boot. End of an Era was bad. Couldn't believe it was her singing.

I'm more worried about their new material than who they get as a vocalist. Seems kind of soon to have everything written, yet not plan to release anything until sometime in 2007. I wonder if the recording / release date will get moved up any, but I guess that depends on how long the search continues...

Really? I think everything after 'OB' was a decline, and "Once" was just awful - dull, uninspired, and hardly representative of what they used to sound like.

As I said, 'Once' was my first, thought I'd check out the fuss - and I loved it. I'll have to check pre-'OB', if you reckon it's their best period.

A decline? Hell no. Once is Nightwish's best album by far. It had my #1 metal album for 2004. The only album which seemed poor by comparison was Century Child.
All the albums are great, but to my ears, they have only gotten better since Oceanborn

I don't agree with you. I think to that OB is their best album... I think that after this album they have only simplified their music... Now someone is going to scream: They used the orchestra! I say well hell they did next time i hope they write the arangements themselves. It's not hard to create a majestic feeling from 50 instruments who fill the soundscape to the rim. Do it with 5 i say :D

Oceanborn is their best, followed by Wishmaster - their two Power Metal albums.

I loved the shitty/awesome keyboard sound on Oceanborn, and the more Stratovarius-inspired guitar and keyboard interplay on Wishmaster.

Century Child and Once are still good (Marco's voice adds a great new dimension), but I basically prefered them before Emppu's guitar was drop-tuned.

The tail end of Oceanborn, IMO, stops it from being their best album. From Moondance onwards, there are some average/OK tracks which just dont hold a candle to the first 5 tracks. The Riddler is pretty good but the rest are just average/OK

To be Oceanborn is overrated. Surely it's a great album, but it's the last album they put out when they were more underground. That's generally the case with bands, the last album they released before becoming somewhat popular is usually labeled their best, or their last great album. Personally if you like Oceanboard I'm not sure how you can't like their follow-ups!

Oceanborn has a few turds on it (mainly the bonus tracks, so I guess that comment doesn't apply to anyone but me), plus the terrible, processed death metal vocals ruin two of the most epic tracks the band has ever done! Yeah, great album, but overrated and not their best.

And Once is awesome!

Oceanborn is by far their greatest album so far. At the beginning, I thought Once was really great. It became my favourite. But after some time I realised that there wasn't anything great about Once. Yeah, the orchestra gave an extra edge to the band....big deal. But it took away the potent venom the keyboards had. Once was the worst album for its keyboards. Totally lame and uninspiring.

I can't understand that. I think it's an amazing album. "Planet Hell" is one my favorite Nightwish tunes, "Ghost Love Score" is easily their best epic tune. And though people scoffed and the steady, almost-electronica beat of "Wish I Had An Angel," that song is fucking killer! It's a great album. But you can dislike it.

the only bad part about that song is the end of it with the native american speaking

The only other 2 songs im not too crash hot on are the last two. One cos im not a fan of non-english singing tracks and the last track doesnt grab me that much. EVERY OTHER track KICKS ASS!

In my book, Oceanborn and Once are sort of on the same level. They are rather different albums, while Once had a better sound (synthesizers can only mimic, but not replace a real orchestra), Oceanborn was more technical. It seems too that Oceanborn was a much more complete and even album (sound- and concept-wise) while Once felt more like a bunch of unrelated singles placed after one another.

As for this future album, I hope they'll keep the orchestra, get abit less commercial and abit more progressive, and please get a singer with an opera voice (like Tarja before Century Child). Oh, yes... and have a 15+ minutes song on it.

"Kuolema Tekee Taiteilijan" kind of goes by without making itself noticed, but I guess it's not a bad songs. Maybe a bit too opera-ish for me. The only song I have real issues with is either "Dead Gardens" or "Romanticide," I can't remember which it is off the top of my head right now. Anyway, it's the one that gets real noisy and cluttered at the end, like they were trying too hard to be heavy. I cringe at that part, but otherwise I love the album.
