That's pretty lame, although Devin does tend to overstate how into or not into a project he is. Maybe it'll just be another 6 year wait. That would suck a lot too though >_<

Devin is clearly getting mellower with age. It's expected, I guess. I think the song "Fucker" and the nature of his words in this interview are simply the result of someone feeling pushed and prodded. He likely wants to be home with his wife during the pregnancy, he's an emotional guy.

He should not close the door on SYL, just close the door on a major label SYL. I don't know who will own the rights to it after this album, but he should consider releasing some SYL stuff under the HDR banner. I'm willing to bet his next album is VERY mellow and introspective, a child will humble a man tenfold. Of course, when the child is 2 years old it might be driving him insane and we'll get a new SYL album.

Devin generally speaks first, I'd take it all with a grain of salt.

Yeah, he just seems like he's very emotional at the moment.

It's all very dramatic and silly, but it makes sense. He isn't exactly the most stable guy in the first place, and now he has a kid on the way. He just needs to hole up somewhere for awhile and stop doing interviews that will make his bandmates feel like shit.

Well if he's gonna release more mellow crap like the new black, he would better quit. He's obviously not in the mood for a SYL album now, and he wasn't during the making of TNB, so he should give it a break.

But The New Black is the best SYL album this side of City, so I encourage more of this sort.

I dunno, I just can't get into this new one. I miss the aggression. He should keep doing this kinda stuff on the DTB but not SYL. I'm dissapointed in him but I do understand how he is feeling.

I think it's just a little more of his solo personality that's throwing people off. Every SYL thus far has had a lot of his melodic nature that he usually leaves to his solo albums, this one is essentially 50/50. In the past I think there was so much agression the melodious bits were easily overlooked. Now it's almost a glaring middle finger! I mean, "Almost Again" is easily the most non-SYL SYL song I've heard yet, but it's a killer tune. I guess if his solo stuff isn't something you're into this album would be a let down, but I'm a self-proclaimed fanboy, so I'm cool with it.

The new SYL is next to City imo.

I can't really judge the new SYL compared to Alien or City just because it isn't really pissed off. I think it is far, far below them because it is one of the three Devin albums that actually has songs I don't like on it. (Synchestra and SYL are the other two)

there's the wrong side video btw. holy shit the "get up get up get up" backing vocals are stupid.

I think it is great. One should always stop when it doesn't feel right, or destroys what was acomplished.

Metallica should have done the same, I think.
