It's official...

Big deal. I can't see them changing that much. The worst we'll get is another Risk.

OH NOES THE EVAL RECORD COMPANY WILL MAKE THEM CHANGE THEIR SOUND! GROWL!

I love how Iron Maiden and Judas Priest sign to Sony Fucking Music, and no one bats an eyelash.

I seriously doubt Roadrunner makes bands change their sound, you ever think the bands choose to do it themselves? I highly doubt Mike Akerfeldt was held at gunpoint to make a mediocre album, he just wrote a mediocre album.

Yeah, but if Priest or Maiden were on ROADRUNNER, there would be backlash im sure. That record company specifically is hated by a lot of people on this site.

Roadrunner is hated because they've been screwing bands over ever since they were called Roadracer Records. Also, their recent blatant explotation of music fans is sickening, all these fucking asinine re-issues and such.

A re-issue like Jerry Cantrell's "Degredation Trip" was excellent! An entire second CD, 13 unreleased songs! That was awesome! Sadly, a re-issue 6 months after the initial release with like a photo galler, a video and a remix is fucking ridiculous. Roadrunner sucks.

Also, they have this problem with signing a million and one bands based on fad trends. For example, Metalcore and Nu-metal.

Being fair, there is a shitload of money to be made out of those "fad trends".

If I were the owner of a record company I'd be like roadrunner as well, money is awesome. But since I'm not and I'll never be I 'll keep on bitchin' about them.

Yes quite. And of course- this is Megadeth- who have appeared in a Daffy Duck cartoon, so it's not as if they're moving ot of the underground or anything.

Yeah cause Sony Music doesn't put out an Iron Maiden live album every single year or anything. Or reissue their catalog twice in two years.

iron maiden wouldn't dare sign with roadrunner. they'l probably be assasinated on stage by one of us here. but on the other hand, maiden and priest are way on top the seniority hierarchy that i think roadrunner wouldn't even interfere with the songwriting styles.

So St. Anger wasn't a result of a band being completely out of touch, Elektra Records made them put it out. It all becomes clear now.

If blaming record labels for bad albums lets you sleep better at night, so be it. I prefer to blame the people who actually write and record the album. Like I said, Opeth wrote a mediocre album, plain and simple. It's not like they weren't moving in a more accessible sound to begin with.

Ghost Reveries is actually pretty good. Why all the shit about it? Different direction, yadda yadda, but it's alright. Unless there's a really shit track that I've not heard (and I've heard all but two...).

But, like, music is, you know, art........Damn this money driven world.

And @ Eternal Idol, your probably right. Roadrunner probably picks bands they can see as going from the underground to a more mainstream sound, ie:
Opeth, Satyricon, Cradle Of Filth, ad so on.
